It is so easy to settle in to hibernation as soon as the first sign of Autumn arrives. I immediately want to get the logs on the fire, the candles lit and begin writing Christmas cards. What I have to remember, year after year, is that there are usually 5-8 weeks of glorious weather in the months of September and October that should not be missed.
I’d fallen asleep on the sofa on Sunday afternoon as Robert watched the Grand Prix. I awoke to him telling me that the weather was too nice to be indoors and that we were both going out for a walk. How could I resist?
We drove a few miles away from the house to some woods that we had last visited over the Christmas period last year. They were brown, bare and barren then – they were very different this time around.
Robert jumped over a stile and landed in the most wonderful field. I’m not kidding, if one were to dream of fields this is exactly what one would dream of……….
“Look at this!!!!” I was heard to have said as I too landed on the other side of the stile. The sheep looked up, saw us staring at them with a look of “Can we join you in living here also?” and then got back on with their Sunday lunch of….well grass actually.
It was a beautiful day and I’m glad we got out and experienced a new pocket of the area we live in. I don’t think we saw one other person on our walk and that’s a great thing to experience occasionally, especially when you work in the city as Robert does. To live for just a moment within the feeling that the world and everything in it is all yours.

I’m so glad that folk seem to be taking to this new style of blog/website that I spent all summer building. People are signing up to the feeds and adding email addresses to the subscription box. There are also new members joining the forum almost every day and I’d really encourage you all to pop up and say hello, even for just a moment. Its a great place to ‘meet’ up and chat about topics which need a dialogue in order to survive.
Have a wonderful weekend and if I could encourage you to do one thing before the weather really does set in for the winter it is to get out there for one more walk in the woods.
Keep your eye on the gardening, home & family life, entertaining and living well sections of my website for articles and projects that will be appearing soon!
