Spa-ing Partners.
I’ve never been to a spa before. Nope, never. Stupid girl that I am, it never entered my head to go away to a nice country house, swim, steam, eat and drink bubbly in a lovely room while watching the sun go down on the county of Buckinghamshire. Funny that!
Had I known what a lovely time I was going to have I would have asked to have been born there. Unfortunately it took me thirty three years and an invite from my sister to spend time with her and our Mum to get me along.
The room Jo-Jo reserved was lovely and HUGE!!!! I have a thing about hotel rooms in that I love and adore them. I really enjoy staying in hotels and am very happy to hang out in the hotel room for hours and hours if it’s nice and never venture anywhere. This isn’t often possible with Robert the Husband but I try.
Jo-Jo did the right thing and came stocked with mini bottles of bubbly. I dropped a large bottle in my bag before I left the house but we decided to have that before dinner. All three of us unpacked, discussed what time to head down to the pool and a huge amount of silliness commenced……
…but not before I got a small amount of work done and made a couple of calls – whilst trying to sub-consciously open a very locked window of course!!!!
As soon as that was done we let the bubbles take effect. My mum would ask silly questions about towels that my sister would try to answer in all seriousness – bless. Then Jo-Jo would walk across the room, free from all mummy duties, with the most ridiculous expression on her face that could not go by without some severe mickey taking from me. It was at this point that I had to remind her who was the elder sister as we swung each other round the enormous room and ended up falling on the bed in heaps of giggles with Mum telling us off in the background. No matter how old you get it never changes, thank goodness.
It’s great to be reminded of the silliness that our childhood would bring us in lashings almost every day. I’m rarely silly anymore and to say that this ‘mad hour’ was a tonic is not taking it far enough.
When we got back to the room after a swim, a steam and a massage the sun was setting. Absolutely stunning as it hit the leaded windows. Jodie headed out on to the sun terrace that accompanied our room to see it properly.
With our hair still wet from the pool we watched the sun dip behind the trees and cast a light that was reminiscent of something to be found in the month of June. ROLL ON SUMMER!
We both imagined the terrace below heaving with people, sundresses and cocktails. It’s been a long Winter for our family let me tell you.
We had to get ready.
We had dinner reservations.
All three of us wanted to make use of the pool in the morning before heading home but knew that there was no way we’d make it to the bathroom without tea let alone the pool. Made and brewed good and strong we put the world to rights before heading off for a morning dip. Famished is not a strong enough word for how I felt afterwards and I heartily tucked in to fruit, Greek yogurt, pastries and some of my Mum’s bacon. She had no reservations when telling me how she felt about this act of thievery I promise.
And then we had to go. It was ever so chilly that morning as we headed out to take some final pictures of our time there, but my wee Barbour jacket kept all the chills at bay . I recommend one if you like lightweight warmth (and I’m not being sponsored, I promise!)
Being much more glam than I, Jo-Jo sashayed off to find the car and we tootled off home to the men we chose to marry.
All three of whom were getting up to mischief by erecting a picket fence and thereby creating a children’s garden at my parents house. But more of that anon…..have a wonderful Monday.
