Hello Meatballs!
If this pregnancy diary entry was an episode of Friends it would be called ‘The One Where Nothing Fits’. It happened all of a sudden. I spent a week or so in ‘comfy clothes’ as it was so cold and I wanted to layer up. By the time I came back to wanting to wear my hipster maternity jeans I was too big for them. I’ll be honest with you, I entered this pregnancy never dreaming that I would be having two and even when I got this news I never dreamt that I would OUTGROW MATERNITY JEANS!
It has now become virtually impossible for me to have anything resembling a waistband sitting anywhere near to my waist and certainly not below it. This means that all of my hipster tracksuit bottoms that I mooch about in and look kinda cute in have now been packed in to large plastic bags and put into a cupboard along with just about every other item of clothing that I own. I’m not lying when I recall an exchange that took place between Robert the Husband and I this past Sunday morning as we packed up my former wardrobe and put it away……
Robert – I don’t like doing this
Cherry – Why not?
Robert – It’s like you’ve died and I have to pack all your things away
Cherry – DUDE!!! I’m two feet away from you carrying TWO of your children and very much alive….if a little moany
Robert – Yes, that’s right. Phew.
What this exponential growth spurt has left me with are a grand total of three, yes, three items of clothing that I can bear to wear on a regular basis. And two of them ain’t pretty so that has left me with ONE.
Item One – these pajama bottoms. OK, so these are very comfortable and are now my offical cosy clothes. I wear these to relax in and I don’t want to hear sniggers from the back row!
My problem with these, apart from the obvious fact that you can’t wear pajamas out of the house and they clearly create a ‘Mom Bum’ the size of Thailand, is that they are made by Disney! Now look, one of my favourite quotes is by Walt Disney (“If you can dream it, you can do it – all this started with a Mouse”) but I don’t want to wear his clothes!
Item Two – I find these jeans actually offensive. LOOK AT THEM! My sister gave them to me and swore that she wore them all the time during her twin pregnancy. What she didn’t tell me was that she wore them all the time INSIDE THE HOUSE and never once went out in them. So there was I innocently wearing these hideous creatures in to town the other day when Jodie turned to me and said ” What are you wearing?”. “The maternity jeans you gave me” I replied. ” You don’t wear them outside, in public. Even I didn’t do that when I was eight months gone. They’re horrid”
YOU DON’T SAY!!!!!!!!
This leaves me with one item of clothing to wear on my bottom half that enables me to look and feel like I have a tiny amount of my previous personality left within me. These black trousers are soft and pull right up over my bump thus allowing any top I wear to be pulled down over the bump and create a nice clean shape.
I promise you that I know where to get some great maternity clothing from and already have some on order. What astounded me about this whole thing was the speed in which I outgrew an entire wardrobe of clothes. The babies are both still the size of two singleton babies so it’s not that surprising I guess but soooooo surreal.
Anyway, I think it’s fairly obvious that I have asked for a few more items of clothing from Robert for Valentine’s Day along with a lovely pair of ballet pumps for when the weather warms up and UGGS are no longer suitable. I swear UGGS were made for pregnant ladies. I’m rarely out of them.
As I write this diary a week behind I am now entering my 21st week. Let’s see what it shall bring. It’s exciting and I’ll tell you why…….I have an enourmous pillow on the way that will support my entire body and the bump too. Sleep shall be mine once again……..until the twins arrive that is!

Hi there. I stumbled across this blog post while looking for 20 week twin-related things, and have to say I chuckled through most of it! I’m currently 20 weeks with twins and also rapidly running out of clothes to wear – made more difficult by the cold weather – running out of long jumpers in particular!
