This weekend two special events took place.
1, It was Robert the Husband’s birthday
2, The sun shone for the whole time
These two things, happening in conjunction, made me the happiest pregnant lady in the land. Robert and I started his ‘Special Day Weekend’ by going out to supper on Friday night to this place. We’ve been there before and both love it. It has the type of landlady that every single pub should have – friendly, helpful, remembers you etc.. – and also has a darn good head chef so the food is always sublime.
And then on Saturday we jumped in our new Family Wagon (had to get rid of the Mini due to the babies coming) and headed off up to sunny London. London is a different place when the sun shines. Us Brits crave good weather so much that when we get even a tiny bit of the good stuff we all strip off, head to the parks and promptly get burnt. But it also lands us all in very good moods.
So it was, that Robert and I found ourselves in Busaba grabbing a bite of lunch before hitting the shops having conversations with our waiter about how gorgeous it was outside and how much we have longed for a weekend in the sun.
Once we’d finished eating we both skipped off outside (Robert skipped, he’s a mean skipper, and I waddled) and headed in to Selfridges. I LOVE shopping with Robert. He is a great shopper and has actually taught me a lot. He opts for luxury and quality every time and really enjoys the process. He doesn’t go shopping super often due to having a penchant for more expensive items, but when he does I always make sure I tag along.
But, all good things must come to an end and unfortunately it all came to an end far sooner than it should have done due to our little boy twin being head down again (YAY!!!!) and sitting very low in my pelvis. But we got several hours of shopping in and headed ( Robert skipped ) off back to the car to head out of town and back home into the countryside.
On the way out of town we got to see London alive again after a long and cold Winter…….
The Natural History Museum with the sun on its face and black taxi cabs racing by, taking folk off to the parks to lay in the sun and broil like chickens.
The rows of white houses in Chelsea. All lined up like teeth in a Hollywood actor’s mouth. Beautiful and my favourite type of house in the town.
Ahhh, the Kings Road. Home to so much fashion, history and drama. Also some very long weekends spent by me and my friends as we wandered up and down and up and down as teenagers. Lusting after the latest shoes and clothing that our pocket money wouldn’t buy even after about fifteen years of saving up!!
We headed down Chelsea Embankment…..
..crossed the river and drove south out of London. We had a lovely day and came home to make a delicious supper out of some Thai ingredients that I had been saving. Robert and I discovered that Lemon Grass wasn’t our friend on that particular occasion but we’ll tame it and try it again soon.
The next day, as the family arrived at our house before we went out to lunch, Robert was happy and relieved that once again the sun was shining. If I had a penny for the number of times he mentioned eating lunch outside I’d be able to join him in his luxury shopping trips more often.
Do you see what I mean by us all being so desperate for some sunshine???
I’m the most anti-cold weather person I know and I’m getting worse as I get older. It’s like I cease to function in anything but a balmy, hazy, sunny day. It’s a miracle that I like Christmas at all!!!!!!
Daisy wandered up the garden to get in to her car as we all headed out in convoy to get some lunch at a pub not far away.
Clutching Daisies, of course.
After we’d all eaten heartily we headed out to a green in front of the pub to enjoy our drinks and allow lunch to go down a bit.
I love the little village that this pub resides in. Chocolate box houses line the streets and people wander up and down the street.
There’s fatty soaking up the sun on the grass.
I think they threatened to leave me there as I couldn’t get back up again without assistance.
Nice!!!
Thanks!!!
ROBERT!!!!!!
Oi, come back!!!!!!!
Ah, now here we have Granddad who is totally besotted with his two granddaughters and is looking forward to two more arriving. And we have Robert the Husband who is besotted with his two nieces and is looking forward to having his own two children.
It was such a lovely weekend, Honey, and I’m glad you had a great birthday.
Next year you’ll have two children who’ll be heading towards their first birthday. You may be sleep deprived, look a little older, unable to splash out on all those shopping trips as we’ll be buying shares in Wet Wipes, and wonder how you managed to make it through the first year. But the child on your shoulders will be your own. Now, I’m not a parent yet but something tells me that you can’t beat that.
And hopefully they’ll do just as good a job at looking for insects in your hair as Truly is in this pic!!!!!!!!
