Raising Twins, Bathtime

Anaïs - 19th July 10

This is Anaïs, she is learning to smile at the moment and melts my heart with the warmth in her face as she does so. At almost six weeks old our twins are already growing up and changing so rapidly as each day passes.

Robert and I have begun to put some gentle routines in place. We feed at regular intervals and give them a bath every evening. They hated, really hated, their baths a couple of weeks ago but now they quite like them.

I lower Anaïs gently in to the water and her lovely smile is suddenly gone! Replaced by a loud scream that tells me she is not happy with the situation.

I hold her safely in the warm water and gently wash her, listening for the cries to subside and for her breathing to stop sounding as frantic.

And then I rock her very softly through the water as she focuses on me and realises that I have her safely in my arms.

She even manages a wee smile as we sing a little water baby song together.

Me: “See Anaïs, that wasn’t so bad was it? It’s lovely to be bathed in warm water after a long hot sticky day in England. One day when you’re all grown up you’ll rush up to your bathroom and spend hours relaxing in the tub by choice! Shall we do it again tomorrow evening??”

Anaïs: ” Do we have to? I don’t like it that much!”

Monkey!

Ned before bath - 19th July 10

Ned takes a more relaxed approach to being placed in the bath. He sleeps right up until the last moment.

Blissfully unaware.

Me: “Come on Ned, mummy and daddy refuse to put you in there if you’re not at least a little bit awake. It’s just not fair.”

Ned : “Oh alright then, get on with it!”

Ned in bath 2 - 19th July 10

Ned : ” Right, that’s enough, I’m clean……I”M CLEAN!!!!!!!!”

Ned after bath 1 - 19th July 10

Ned : ” I can’t believe we have to go through this every night, mum”

Me : ” But Ned, don’t you love feeling all clean and cosy before having your supper and going off to sleep for a bit?”

Ned after bath 2 - 19th July 10

Ned : ” I suppose so”

Goodnight Ned -

Me : “Goodnight, Ned”

Ned : “Goodnight, Mum”
