Before Night Falls

We now have a comments function. Leave your comment/question at the end of every post!

Yesterday was a big day for both myself and the babies as we all went down to the doctors, with the help of Grandma, and The Meatballs got their injections.

I’m not going to lie to you, it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I couldn’t even hold them while they stuck the needle in. Poor Grandma got that job. I was just there to hold them afterwards and tell them that it was all OK as I wiped my own tears away. Silly Mummy!

Ned was fine when we got back and instead of going straight to sleep he stayed up and hung out for a while.

He hung out on my knee for a bit while Anaïs slept upstairs. We chatted about the day and I told him what a brave boy he’d been when the nurse had stuck him with a big needle. He, in turn, told me that it hurt a little bit but was nothing too scary.

This is a good sign as they have to go back for some more in a month!!

Then we had a cuddle. Ned has a lovely way of nuzzling. He makes sure his head fits right in to your neck and then peeks out from inside.

He warmed his toes in the late afternoon sun and we both enjoyed snuggling on the quilt for a bit.

As we hung out on the sofa and I put my face close to his. Feeling his tiny breath on my face and staring in to his big saucer eyes.

He has his Fathers mouth. Beautiful lips and nose and very kissable. I kiss Ned a great deal. It’s one of my most favourite things to do. I kiss them both in fact but as my little girl was sleeping upstairs I had to take out all of my love on just one child. And Ned was the recipient.

But after a while he got a little tired of being showered with so much affection.

And begged me to stop kissing him.

I didn’t of course…..

So he had to keep a close eye on me!

Eventually it was time to head up the stairs and get ready for bath time. Which meant that Anaïs had to wake up from her injection induced nap.

My poor angel cried big, huge lollipop tears after she was stabbed and looked at me in utter shock. She then promptly fell asleep but not before breaking my heart.

The three of us made our way in to the bathroom, where the bath was running. I was telling them that Dada would be home from work soon and that perhaps he would get to see them if the trains were all running OK.

As I undressed them I saw the little marks that the needles had left. How many times can your heart break in one day I wonder?

But within moments Anaïs was in the bath and having fun. They love bath times now that they are a little bigger. The three of us gather on the floor and make sure that we are all nice and cosy before we begin.

One by one they take turns. They sit in the little blue bath seat and we have a splash around. They both like going for a swim so the seat is sometimes abandoned in favour of  mummy’s arms. We create a mini wave machine with the water as they both try to put their heads under the water. Needless to say I don’t allow that at this time. I love them but not enough to go swimming just yet!

Then it’s time for Anaïs to get a bubble hat made. They are a different shape each night and I think she misses them if we don’t make one.

Ned has a more relaxing time in the bath. No bubble hats just a really good soak.

We wash his hair together….

….and his ears.

Before leaving the bathroom and heading off to our cosy room.

It’s around this time in the evening that my lovely, peaceful, happy babies tend to get a little…how shall I put this?…..fractious?

You won’t be able to tell from this picture just how loud the screaming is but let me assure that it is very loud indeed. Incredibly loud. So loud in fact that I try to get this bit over and done with as soon as possible……..

Hence the mix-up with nightwear…..

Anaïs didn’t seem to mind being in blue and went beautifully off to sleep but Ned’s face told a slightly different story….

“Son, just because you’re a boy doesn’t mean that you can’t wear pink. Your Dad has some great clothing in shades of pink. It means nothing”

Ned seemed to accept this. Drifting off to sleep resplendent in pink candy stripes. Peaceful and content.

Which is slightly more than can be said for his reaction this morning when he saw his hat.

My baby cried at EVERY bath-time for the first 7 months! I couldn’t work out what I was doing wrong, apparently nothing and that’s when I realised that all babies are different and she was just fine. You are doing great Cherry.

Lovely, lovely bundles of pure joy!! I cried as well when my little ones received their first shots. I remember after my sweet girl started crying the doctor said to her, “Oh, that is indeed such a very sad story, but I believe I have heard it before.” …. Love Ned’s hat – and his expression even more so!

lovely story! weirdly, I broke off reading it to get the post which launched itself through the door – jake is napping so very inconsiderate amount of noise :) and one of the letetrs what the one ‘inviting me’ to bring jake to the surgery for his 13 month jabs – ouch! I always hate doing this and I cried too though sadly didn’t have anyone to hold him for me!

  19. Kirsty says:

Oh Cherry they are so so beautiful, and not a bit alike!
Thats a lovely precious bath time story you have shared with us-thank you. When our children get that little bit older we so quickly forget the routine of tiny bath-times past. Ned looks adorable in his new hat-im sure he’ll grow to love it!

Your babies are wonderful, and growing so fast… Enjoy these early days with them as they don’t last long. I wish I could remember more about my children from when they were so small, now they are all grown up with their own children (and my beautiful grandchildren). Children are a blessing from God. Enjoy.
    You have a lovely home.
