Good morning!
I’m starting today with a little bit of housekeeping here on the site and a couple of announcements.
- You can now leave comments on the articles/posts! I’ve been wanting to facilitate this for ages but seeing as we’re right in the middle of a big website re-design behind the scenes it seemed like now was the perfect time. So feel free to add your thoughts and comments to the bottom of every post using the link which says “Leave a Response’ I really look forward to hearing from you.
- As you know we are having some work done to the site at the moment which occasionally means that we are unable to upload a new article/post. This work is almost completed and I will be back to posting every weekday very soon. Thank you for your patience and I hope you like the new look website!
OK, let’s get started with today’s Search for Chic….

At first glance this picture looks pretty normal, no? Jeans, black wife-beater top, trainers…..Ah, the trainers!

My current trainers are MBT’s. MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology and you can read more about the shoe and the technology behind them right here! I have wanted a pair of these shoes for a long time but they are kind of expensive and I’d always used up my birthday and Christmas presents requests with things like Kitchen Aid mixers and earrings from Blaguette. But one day, about two weeks after having my C-Section I was feeling particularly sorry for myself. I was still sore, bloated, leaking milk etc, etc……
Robert and I were off to Brighton for the day and he suggested that we try to pick up some MBT’s for me while I was there to cheer me up. I think he abides by the ‘Happy Wife, Happy Life’ law and could see that I’d be kicking off if I didn’t have something fun to do and aim for. At that time in my recovery I was aiming for being able to walk without my insides burning but I also wanted to get out of maternity wear as soon as I could. I thought that these shoes would help me to do that.
When we made the purchase the chap behind the counter told me all about the shoes, about how I had to make sure that I wore them for only twenty minutes a day until my legs became stronger and also how I must be sure to watch the DVD that came with the shoes. This would help me understand how important it was to walk in them correctly. In order to get the best from them.
I had noticed, as I looked at the collection on offer in the sports store, just how ugly these shoes were. I tried on some black ones, cream coloured ones and the white ones you see in the pictures and they were all as ugly as each other. Making my feet look like big white boats. But as soon as I put them on I felt different. Just walking around the shop I felt very strange. I was using muscles in my legs that I hadn’t used in ages if ever.
I bought them home and began to wear them around the house for a few minutes each day. One time I forgot to take them off and before long my legs were so tired. It was only when I remembered the chap in the shop telling me that before I get used to walking in the shoes that my legs would feel like I had had a really good workout that I took them off.
But I kept on wearing them and over the last two months I have seen such a difference in the way I feel.
I’ve said all along that something I really wanted to get back after my twin pregnancy was my strength. Well it’s on its way. These shoes are gently helping me to stand up straight again and walk correctly after many months waddling. They are, slowly but surely, easing me into vibrant health while my insides continue to heal.
Alas, they’re still ugly!

Cherry you give me hope, if you can look that good after having your twins I can do too after having my one baby.
Definitely getting some of those shoes!

I have a pair of MBT’s in black and now seeing them on you wish I had bought them in white – much nicer and less like you have 2 beetles on your feet!
Enjoy your day.
Millie
I haven’t heard of MBT’s but I am always looking out for new things to make me fitter (and thinner)
I love reading your site during my lunch break at work, I always come away with so much inspiration.
Thanks Cherry!
Blimey Cherry, I have just seen how much those babies cost on the internet! Sounds like they are worth it though.
Looking forward to seeing more pictures of those adorable babies of yours.
Enjoy wearing your “boats” hahahahaha
Sharon
So happy to have a comment section on your site. You always look great – even in ugly MBT trainers. Have a wonderful day with your babies.
Hi Cherry, I have been following your site for a while now, ever since your Pixiewood days and I have always loved your style of writing and your beautiful pictures. It is so nice to be able to leave a comment on your site and see what other people are saying too.
Lots of love from Devon x
Whoo Hoo… I’ve been waiting for the comment facility to appear on your site for AGES!! Hope the re-design is going as planned.
I haven’t heard of MBTs but they sound great, even if they aren’t the prettiest looking things. I’m glad to hear you’re starting to feel much stronger now xx
I love my MBT’s, both my sister and my mum have a pair too.
You look great Cherry – keep up the good work.
Holly
I swear by my FitFlops – they are awesome and so comfy. To be fair though, I only wear them around the house, I wouldn’t dare go outside in them!
Hugs!
Which shop did you get them from in Brighton? If it’s the one down the road from the train station I might be able to pop in there on my lunch break…
My knees gave way in November and I’ve been trying to build them back up for months now – but every time I try exercise they give way again! This may very well be the answer!
Thanks Cherry
Love the site. When will we see more filmed stuff Cherry?
Babs
Hi Babs, thanks for your comment. We enjoy making the filmed recipes so much and plan to get more up on the site very soon.

Hi Cherry,
Can I just say that I love your website and really enjoy your Search for Chic articles.

Really love the comments feature now – have often wanted to ‘discuss’ the articles with other people!
Have always steered away from the MBTs as am yet to see a style I like but am tempted to give them a try now I have read this.
My colleague also raves about her ‘fitflops’…why are all these shoes that are ‘good’ for us not as cool looking as a pair of converse?! x
Hi Cherry, you look amazing after giving birth to your twins.
I totally agree with you, getting my strength back after I had my baby was way more important than losing the weight, it was nice to be able to climb the stairs again without feeling out of breath. Phew.

Did you ever watch the DVD that they gave you? Mine got chucked away the box I think. Haha.
Can’t wait to see the “new look” web site.
Charlotte
I want those shoes! I have heard so much about them. You look lovely Cherry.
Philipa from London
I don’t blame you for wanting a Kitchen Aid Mixer over those shoes, they’re not the best looking footwear I have seen.
Julia
It is so lovely to see the vibrance of the English green in your pictures, it is winter over here in South Africa and I miss home so much. Keep up the good work with your trainers Cherry
Cherry – you are looking amazing considering you gave birth to twins not long ago!! Thanks for sharing.
I have Fit Flops for the Summer and MBT’s for the colder days – I LOVE them (even though both are ugly!)
Thanks for making me laugh Cherry – they really are ugly trainers!!! Ha Ha!!
Hi Cherry (and the team), I love the fact that we can now leave comments on the site.
I bought some MBTs last year and I just couldn’t get on with them, they gave me blisters and made my legs ache! I guess I wasn’t as committed as you are. Perhaps I’ll dig them out from the back of my wardrobe and give them another go. he he.
Have a great day.
Rubinda
You look great Cherry after having your twins.

Oh my gosh – when I have given birth I am so getting a pair of these!! Only 2 weeks to go and hopefully my waddle walks will go – plus I will have my little bambino! Thanks for the info Cherry.
Katie from Bury.
OMG! I have MBT’s too and they are amazing! They have strengthened my legs all over and made me walk taller… but I do agree that they are very ugly! Love your site.
