I Want My MBT’s

Good morning!

I’m starting today with a little bit of housekeeping here on the site and a couple of announcements.

  • You can now leave comments on the articles/posts! I’ve been wanting to facilitate this for ages but seeing as we’re right in the middle of a big website re-design behind the scenes it seemed like now was the perfect time. So feel free to add your thoughts and comments to the bottom of every post using the link which says “Leave a Response’ I really look forward to hearing from you.
  • As you know we are having some work done to the site at the moment which occasionally means that we are unable to upload a new article/post. This work is almost completed and I will be back to posting every weekday very soon. Thank you for your patience and I hope you like the new look website!

OK, let’s get started with today’s Search for Chic….

At  first glance this picture looks pretty normal, no? Jeans, black wife-beater top, trainers…..Ah, the trainers!

My current trainers are MBT’s. MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology and you can read more about the shoe and the technology behind them right here! I have wanted a pair of these shoes for a long time but they are kind of expensive and I’d always used up my birthday and Christmas presents requests with things like Kitchen Aid mixers and earrings from Blaguette. But one day, about two weeks after having my C-Section I was feeling particularly sorry for myself. I was still sore, bloated, leaking milk etc, etc……

Robert and I were off to Brighton for the day and he suggested that we try to pick up some MBT’s for me while I was there to cheer me up. I think he abides by the ‘Happy Wife, Happy Life’ law and could see that I’d be kicking off if I didn’t have something fun to do and aim for. At that time in my recovery I was aiming for being able to walk without my insides burning but I also wanted to get out of maternity wear as soon as I could. I thought that these shoes would help me to do that.

When we made the purchase the chap behind the counter told me all about the shoes, about how I had to make sure that I wore them for only twenty minutes a day until my legs became stronger and also how I must be sure to watch the DVD that came with the shoes. This would help me understand how important it was to walk in them correctly. In order to get the best from them.

I had noticed, as I looked at the collection on offer in the sports store, just how ugly these shoes were. I tried on some black ones, cream coloured ones and the white ones you see in the pictures and they were all as ugly as each other. Making my feet look like big white boats. But as soon as I put them on I felt different. Just walking around the shop I felt very strange. I was using muscles in my legs that I hadn’t used in ages if ever.

I bought them home and began to wear them around the house for a few minutes each day. One time I forgot to take them off and before long my legs were so tired. It was only when I remembered the chap in the shop telling me that before I get used to walking in the shoes that my legs would feel like I had had a really good workout that I took them off.

But I kept on wearing them and over the last two months I have seen such a difference in the way I feel.

I’ve said all along that something I really wanted to get back after my twin pregnancy was my strength. Well it’s on its way. These shoes are gently helping me to stand up straight again and walk correctly after many months waddling. They are, slowly but surely, easing me into vibrant health while my insides continue to heal.

Alas, they’re still ugly!

P.S. I remembered not to type a Smiley, that time! I’m improving.
    P.P.S. Sure, I am! Not!
P.P.P.S. I followed my ‘crowing’ above, with a Smiley! But I caught it. Yes, I am improving!!!

You do make me laugh Cherry, I can also relate to putting on a pair of bright white trainers and looking down at them in the store and just seeing two huge white boats on my feet, (my feet are a UK size 9!) – they looked awful. I quickly removed the shoes and scurried out of the store as quick as I could.
    Enjoy your day Cherry.

Hi Cherry, I actually think that your shoes are not that bad, some of the shoes my children wear are truly hideous! Plus, at least your shoes have a purpose.
    Enjoy them.

  14. Ellen P. says:

Actually, I do NOT find your shoes ugly! I’ve always been a fan of white sneakers.

Have you SEEN the hideous gym shoes out there that resemble galactic starship wear with their heavy use of metallic silver coloring in the aesthetic design??? Now, that, my dear, is hideous. The athletic shoe market is chock full of this otherworldly footwear. Ick.

Someone in my office wears those shoes. I just thought that the person wearing them had no taste in trainers, glad to see now that the shoes have a purpose at least.

I agree with Carrie, the Vibram Five Fingers are awesome. A bit strange to wear at first but they offer amazing support and improve posture.
Good luck with your shoes Cherry.

I think that you have finally convinced me to invest in a pair although I was intending to use them to walk to work in which I do daily which is 4 miles each way…. perhaps not.

I was told that they are fabulous for doctors, nurses, waiters or teachers. Basically anyone on their feet a whole lot. Your walk to work would be totally fine. Cx

  22. I’ve looked into the MBT’s. I also looked into the Vibram FiveFingers at the same time and went with the FiveFingers- they’re definitely the minimalist’s choice between the two. Once you get over the cosmetics of them, they’re superb. They’ve already helped with my leg strength, posture, and lower back pain I was having. I got the Sprint model- http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/products/products_Sprint_f.cfm – in black.

Sad thing is that I now can’t stand to wear heels because I can instantly feel how bad they are all around for my body.

Wasn’t Demi Moore wearing MBT’s in ‘Meet the Joneses?’ – I love that movie!

I wear my MBT’s to walk into work every day and admittedly get some strange looks, but I feel great when I arrive, it’s just like doing a mini work-out every morning without having to go to the gym. Enough said.
