I’ve always had a hard time deciding on what my signature smell is. I jump from perfume to perfume and often come back to the same two or three but I don’t have a smell that I have worn for years and years and would call my own, yet!
The same can’t be said for my lipstick

I remember when MAC was first launched in this country way back in the nineties. It was only available in London and the Spice Lip liner was used by all of the original Supermodels, Linda, Christie et al….
I had read in ELLE magazine how all of the staff who worked the MAC counters were all trained make-up artists and would actually spend time with you deciding on the best products for your skin, colouring and look you were wanting to achieve. This was very exciting as I was used to rather frumpy looking girls behind the counters with foundation that made their faces look like Digestive biscuits and their necks like bottles of milk.
“Isn’t it all meant to BLEND?” I would ask myself as I scurried away from their clutches and ran off in to the street. MAC and the promise of real artists selling you their wares was too much to resist and I was straight on a train to London.
MAC were also eco-friendly and encouraged their customers to recycle the packaging that the make-up came in. I remember duly taking back all of my empty blusher and eye shadow cases in return for a free lipstick. An exciting day as I was a drama student at the time and very short on cash.
I’ve tried other lipsticks before, even other MAC lipsticks, but I always, always come back to the same shade.

Captive.

Being a die hard products girl the joy I experience when opening a brand new MAC’ Captive’ lippy is unconfined. And this joy has heightened since having my babies and using my wrinkly belly as a stress ball. It goes on to my lips like a dream and stays on. It works out for me much better than the sticky lip glosses as, although they look delicious, I have long hair and the wind will invariably blow my hair on to my lips and I’ll have to peeeeeel it all off. Taking any trace of lip gloss off of my lips and trailing it up across my cheeks and landing somewhere by my eyebrows.
So I stick to my MAC. My buddy MAC. My stalwart, friend and favourite shade. If only they had a fragrance I could be as loyal to!
What’s your favourite lipstick? I’d love to know as I’m a fan of all things dress-up. Not only that but I’m thinking of having a giveaway soon so I want to know all about your favourite make-up.
We’ve also added a chat & reply function to the comments section so I may be popping up and having a chin wag with some of your answers, if that’s OK?
I love you all lots,
Cherry

My all-time favorite MAC lipstick color is “O”. I think its the most gorgeous color. I wish I could find a pair of shoes of that color.
I would love to know what blush you use, Cherry!
Hello, love this post. I agree with you on the lip-gloss. I do love the Lancôme Juicys but have given them up as I hate my hair being stuck in them. I would love to be able to wear nude lips but always look half dead. The colour I have been wearing a lot is the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge 131. I’m not sure if it’s the same colour overseas as I know the Australian range can vary with the numbers. I love the lipstick as it smells beautiful and the click of the tube makes me happy, sad sack I am. It does wear off quickly, however so that’s the downside. I might have to try MAC in your shade. I have used their Russian Red which was a bit too much for the school run. xx
I am a lipstick junkie with a huge collection. Right now I am loving the Revlon matte shades. I also like Lipstick Queen – Rose Sinner.
Hmmm…….I don’t have a signature lippy OR a signature perfume!! I just grab any colours or scents I like!
I like the shade of your lipstick Cherry – I might have to wonder over to MAC at some point….
For me it’s Clarin’s lipsticks in 707 and 708. The formulation is glossy and the colour really holds. But names would be so much nicer! When I was a small child my glam cousin Jean (who would be about 17 then) wore Miner’s “Chelsea Chick” and I thought that was the epitome of style. She looked like Jean Shrimpton only sweeter – and she still does now!
Perfume – overall fave Dior’s “Dolce Vita” for day, Agent Provocateur for night ( I wore it to church once and a man said “that is too sexy for church”!). Best ever, but hard to live up to, Guerlain’s “Nahema”. Swoon.
Hello Cherry, love your site! I really have only ever worn red lipsticks and devoted a great deal of ‘vanity-time’ toward the quest of The Perfect Red – colour, staying-power, texture – it all factors in. I found it a couple of years ago in the form of YSL’s Rouge Volupte in Red Muse. Seduced initially by the gorgeous packaging, I found the colour was the perfect shade and, unusually for such an intense red, it maintained a subtly glossy moisture whilst refraining from bleeding – and it has the most amazing velvety texture. I adore it! Oh – and my signature perfume has been Coco – since the very day it was launched back in the ’80′s. My husband had been working in Paris, was on his way home, panicked as he hadn’t had time to shop for me and dashed into a Parfumerie. After asking him to describe me, the girl recommended Coco – it was perfect – very ‘me’ – and I never wanted to wear anything else from that day on. All the better that I now can choose between that and Coco Mademoiselle for a variation on the theme! x
Cherry – how do you manage to make photo’s of a lipstick look so good!
There is nothing better than the first time you use an unopened lipstick!
I don’t really stick to one lippy, I drift around depending on my mood. Most of the time though I wear tinted lip balm like benetint.
I do have a fragrance though – i love Anna Sui – Sui Dreams.
I wear ‘Naughty You’ by MAC.
I love some of the names for their lippy’s!
OOohhh who can ever resist a bit of MAC! In fact I’m wearing one of their lipsticks today – Syrup!
My ultimate lipstick is one by Molton Brown, “Nude” which they discontinued (you can imagine the stress!) but thankfully before my supplies ran out they brought it back – phew!
Victoria x
Mac Red lippy and Chanel matte lumiere foundation – also love the new Chanel Waterproof Eyeliner in Cassis – this shade is great for enhancing green and hazel eyes
Oooh the joy of that heady wax tinged fragrance from an untouched bullet of lipstick. Does the thrill EVER go away? Since my beloved YSL Pure Shine #17 has been discontinued ..( WHY do they DO that??) and I am kidding myself that the sun WILL shine again this year I have switched allegiance to Stila Charlotte a sassy bright coral. Still miss my #17 though…
Now I know how my Mother felt when Yardley discontinued Solitaire!!! A collective wail went up all over the Uk!!! and no wonder!
Love the blog and the website you little domestic dynamo !
I love Chanel lipgloss…but I really don’t love the hair in the lipgloss in the wind!
I used to be a fan of Payot lipstick but can’t find it here in Sydney.
Mac looks great.
Ah Cherry, the lure of MAC! My favourite red was Chili Pepper until they discontinued it…aagh! Nowadays it’s Twig for day,the original Viva Glam, Mystic & -the sublime – Paramour at night. Bliss. The beautiful matte-ness of them, the gorgeous bullet shape….whenever I’m at an airport, they’re my special treat!I buy one for me, one for my sister Esther. If I don’t wear anything else, I always wear lippy – and it’s invariably MAC. xx
My signature fragrance is China Rose by Floris, I have worn for years and years but they are discontinuing! So am currently stock piling and wailing in equal measure! Lippy wise I love entice by no 7 it’s not a gloss not a solid lippy but somewhere in-between which suits me perfectly:)
I don’t wear lipstick or lipgloss. I prefer tinted lip balms as I suffer from dry cracked lips from working outside a lot – Vaseline is always a good one!
When I was younger I used to ALWAYS wear RImmel – I used to spend my pocket money on ridiculous lipstick & eyeshadow colours!
Now I’ve switched to Lancôme & thrown out that purple lipstick….yes…thats right…..PURPLE!
I wear MAC and LOVE it – I too was drawn to the promise of a trained make-up artists selling me the goods & not some old frumpy woman trying to Tango me!!
I have all my basics in MAC but I do ‘branch out’ and have loads of other bits from different companies like Benefit, Clinique, Max Factor etc etc. Especially if they have a deal like ‘buy this and that and get a free gift’ – I just can’t help it!!
I don’t really wear much make-up during the day because I work outdoors a lot. I don’t think the horses would even notice if I put a bit of lippy on!
When I’m out though i wear Clinique as I really like it.
I wear Benefit make up but I don’t really wear Lipstick, I use the Benetint Lip balm & I love it.
I love your Search For Chic articles Cherry
You look so beautiful in the top picture Cherry. Are you using any camera effects?
When I have Date night with the hubby, the Lipstick I wear is Estee Lauder – Rich Red (I love Red Lippy)
I hate to commit! But just a wee note of interest that it was two Canadians who started MAC Cosmetics – Frank Toscan and Frank Angelo in 1984. They created the line for models who needed make-up which would stand up to the long hours of photography and would have the creative edge needed for the fashion industry. There is another Canadian, Lise Watier, who has a lovely cosmetics line here in Canada (not sure where else on the planet that it is available but be sure to find out as it is excellent) and there is a colour in her line (forget the name) but makes me feel like a million bucks when I wear it and it is the only time that people have specifically commented on a lipstick colour! You’re looking pretty post-babies chic in the photo Cherry so don’t sweat it. Remember that it took you 9 months to get to this point – most likely another nine months to get back to “normal”! Enjoy the journey!
I am a MAC lover myself. My signature lipstick is MAC’s “Capricious”, which I’ve been wearing for years now. I also have a signature scent, “Chanel: Cocoa”. I’ve smelled other perfume’s, but that’s my smell! Love it!
