Mini Mohawk and Being a Hugger

I should really have titled today’s post “Proud Mummy Just Showing Off”.  You see my boy Ned has a double crown (he was also born with a tooth but I’ll leave that for another day) and this means that his tiny hair is growing up from both sides of his head on the top and forming a wee spike. A mini Mohawk. It’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen (yes, I would say that) and I’m really proud of it and him.

Here’s a close up (indulge me, it’s been a long week).

He was making his way out of the living room and in to the the entrance hall the other day and the sun was coming in and just lit his mini Mohawk up from behind. He doesn’t even know it’s there that’s the best bit. He just goes about his daily task of being Ned and has no idea of the cuteness sat atop his little fluffy head.

Hello son!

Hi mum. What’s going on? Why are you taking that many photos? Have I got something on me? Is there food on my forehead? Dude, why all the pictures????

And then he goes back to work.

I had a great day yesterday. I was in London and it was fab. Meeting all sorts of fantastic people from here there and everywhere more details on all of that soon. But I will tell you that I had lunch at BAFTA with a good friend and in walked The Hairy Bikers. They are contributors to a book that I had been given earlier in the day and is currently on the telly – Great British Food Revival. If you are in the mood for a new cookbook I can already heartily recommend this one and I haven’t even tried any of the dishes. Just the titles are enough to send me screaming to the local butchers demanding a leg of mutton. I’ll cook from it soon and let you know how I get on so you can trust my recommendation. A few minutes later Joanna Lumley walked in. I love her, she is a class act. Of course she was quite extraordinary as Patsy in Ab Fab but remember her as Purdey? She rocked.

I love seeing famous people. I’m just get a huge grin on my face whenever I see someone I recognise. I don’t get it when folk try to act all cool and nonchalant, it’s unfriendly and ridiculous. I remember seeing Albert Finney buying milk in a market off Sloan Street when I was a drama student. He’s a god. The man has worked with Audrey Hepburn and Julia Roberts, been nominated for Tony awards and had five Oscar nominations. As soon as I saw him I smiled at him and then he smiled back and said “Hello there”. Before I knew it we were hugging and I was telling him how much his work meant to me as a young actor and he even offered to buy my milk. A similar thing happened when I saw Michael Gambon walking the halls of my drama school a few days after I had seen him in a production of  The Caretaker by Pinter. He got a hug too.

So if you’re out here and we ever meet be warned….. I’m a hugger!

I love you and I hope you have the best weekend you’ve ever had. I intend to!

I’ve visited your website a few times now and you are inspiring!!
I too have twins. Two girls aged 2 1/2. Elizabeth has a double crown as well and had a spectacular mohawk when her hair was shorter, her hair is very dark and thick, so was very impressive. She is doubley special as she has cystic fibrosis too. Her sister Megan, or Peggy, is the exact opposite of Lizzy in every was. She is chubbier, has blonde hair and blue eyes, versus lizzys dark hair and brown eyes. Their personalities are different too.
It is inspiring to see that you achieve so much whilst raising two bundles of joy, well done you!
    love xx

My mother had a double crown, I have a double crown and all three of my children have double crowns. We have beautiful hair and are very special – your son is very lucky to have such a wonderful gift. (My older son had the same “spike”, it settles down rather quickly.

During my one and only trip to the UK (and I really want to come back!) I stepped outside Harrod’s and knocked all of Maud Adams’ packages onto the sidewalk. Yes, Ms. Klutz here barged into the tallest beautiful woman (I’m 5’1″, so she certainly had to look down) and she apologized to me! Such class. She is a seriously attractive person.

Hello, just got round to reading the “Ned” post. He is completely edible. So is Anais. One of my grandaughters has the biggest hair ever. I hope she enjoys it when she grows up. As for famous people, even though I have lived here all my life I have only ever seen 2 fairly famous people in London. Bob Geldof in the 80′s at Covent Garden, (with 2 burly minders, I don’t know why.) and I think it was John Pilger or John Snow both T.V. journalists again around the early 80′s. I’ve seen the Queen in the flesh 3 times. Does that count?

I saw Jerry Hall once and she was beautiful. This post made me smile so much because you remind me of the Strawberry Bear from Toy Story 3. xx

What a wonderful post. Ned really brought a smile to my face, he is gorgeous. I love that age. Make the most of it as they grow up so quickly. (I’m sure you do} Glad you had a fab day in London, sounds great and all those interesting people….wow. Have a great weekend with your lovely family and thanks for all the hard work you put into your blog.x

AH Ned, he’s too cute. I’ll get to meet them next month and can’t hardly wait. I never notice famous people. Ethan Hawke ETHAN HAWKE!! once brushed my arm in central park NY and my friend said “that was Ethan Hawke!!” and I had to turn around to find out it was actually Ethan brushing my arm. Love to find out what you are up to in London.

awwwww. he is just so lovely! Love his hair! My little girl was born with a mop of hair, so from quite early on I used to tie it up in a comedy tuft on the top of her head. I love it when children have fab tufty hairdos!

ooh, you lucky person. Sounds like a super day. Well I just hope you are in talks to do some kind of homestyle/cookery show. You should do, you were made for it.

Love the Hairy Bikers. I have their newest ‘mum’s still know best’ and within a couple of days I’d tried out a recipe from it (meatballs in gravy). The gravy was so fab, I’ve been using it to make beef casserole too.
They always seems like such cheery chaps. I have a soft spot for them.

Have a lovely weekend busy lady :)

I remember seeing Angelina Jolie in Knightsbridge once and I was blown away by her beauty, I think she is a very talented actress and such an amazing humanitarian. I would have gone and given her a big hug if I had the balls.
    Lovely post today.

My daughter and I are HUGE huggers too so you’ll be hugged right back!

I didn’t think Ned could get any cuter but with each new photo I get proved wrong! (likewise with Anais)

Glad you had a fabulous day. Harness that positive energy and pass some on with a hug I say!

    Have the most splendiferous weekend.

    HUGS to everyone! xxx

Ooh BAFTA, very nice. Sounds like you had a lovely day and you still get to come home to your beautiful children, no doubt the very best part of your day.
    Happy Friday :-)

OMG! Ned is too much, he is adorable and I LOVE his Mohawk, seeing these pictures of him has really cheered me up. Give him a big kiss from me.

  20. Kate Harper says:

Oooh! Ned is just so scrumptious! Number 2 son was born with 2 bottom teeth! Breast feeding was interesting…..

So glad to hear that your day in London was enjoyable. I always spot well-known faces when I am out and about and, like you, I am always friendly, although I hold back from the hugging! I think people don’t mind being acknowledged, as long as you are friendly and know when to say ‘goodbye’!

I am looking forward to hearing about the cooking and the exciting news that I am sure we’ll eventually get to know about!
