We’re all moved in. It took a whole week, I kid you not. We moved ourselves without the aid of removal men. Just us and a van. Well a few vans if I’m honest. And a lot of help if I’m even more honest. And a tow truck complete with winch to hoist Robert out of the mud when the removal van got stuck due to the TORRENTIAL RAIN that has been falling constantly if I’m going to tell you everything.
But we’re in, and shattered, and grateful and Never. Moving. Again.

The kids were fantastic I have to say. They just got on with it although they haven’t been sleeping very well. But I think that’s to be expected.
We moved the garden across first. All of my plants had been put in to pots and Robert hired the first of many vans (he only had to hire one more and he would have had the entire collection, so we were told by Van Man) and we loaded them up. Plants in pots are funny things to have to move because you can’t put anything on top of them, obviously, so once the van floor is full that’s it I’m afraid, no more can be fitted in. It took a fair few runs to get the pots across let me tell you.

Even if the kids only had their hands touching the wheelbarrow they felt they were involved, we were more than happy with that. Growing up with Robert and I as parents will ensure that they are more often than not fairly busy so they may as well get a head start.

Once the plants were done Robert hired another truck. This time a 7.5 tonne jobby with a tail-lift at the back. We filled this truck twice. Once on Tuesday and once on Wednesday.

During this process we also discovered that certain pieces of furniture would not be going upstairs due to a rather small opening as the stairs curve round. This means that I shall not be having a sofa in the bedroom but it also means that my marriage has remained intact and we are all still friends. Did I tell you that we’re NEVER MOVING AGAIN?
I did?
Cool.

As more and more large pieces of furniture appeared at the end of the van I think we all had to dig fairly deep to keep our senses of humor and not raid the drinks cabinet.

Thanks Dad.
Thanks brother-in-law Paul.
Maybe one day you’ll both find it in your hearts to begin speaking to Robert and I again if we promise that we’ll NEVER MOVE HOUSE AGAIN.

Or perhaps not, it seems as Paul was left to move the bookcase by himself.

The kids were with Grandma, doing a recce of the garden. And then it rained biblical style and they had to watch from the window. Normally this would have sent them in to hysterics as they like to be part of the action. But on this occasion they both watched from inside the dry, warm and cosy new house quite contentedly. Funny that!

My dad packed the van like he was playing a giant game of Tetris. I have to say, jokes aside, that it did make it a lot easier to unpack and this level of organisation ensured that to a certain extent we did move with J.O.Y. (Just Organise Yourself)
Although I think Garry, my other brother in law, liked to think he could have perhaps packed it a little better. I’m undecided, I think he and my Dad should have a Pack Off to decide. Man vs Packing, sounds like a GREAT television format to me.

We all got stuck in, however I got stuck. Between a mattress and a banister.
I mentioned that we are never moving again didn’t I?

If you could hear this conversation you would hear a ‘tense’ discussion taking place between Garry and I in which we discussed the merits of moving the mattress upstairs in various different ways. My Dad looked on and chortled, as Dad’s do when they are no longer new parents, exhausted, moving house or thinking that they may just jack the whole lot in and move to Thailand.
The mattress did eventually make its way up the stairs and Garry and I sustained only light injuries, although my head seems to be a slightly different shape due to it getting stuck.

But we did it. We moved in and here starts the rest of our lives.
Makeovers, renovations, garden design, homemaking, crafting, recipes and everything else that goes in to keeping a house and garden.
But before that I am taking a 7.5 tonne truck for a wee drive.
Why?
Because I’m a sexy mother-trucker (and clearly slightly delirious)!
I love you and thank you so much for stopping by. I’ve missed this website more than you’ll ever know. Hopefully that will all change from now onwards.
Which is also my word for today, ONWARDS!
Cherry x

Wow. I remember reading your blog a few years ago when you were moving into a pretty little cottage with roses by the door. This popped up in my facebook feed and it’s funny to see you moving again with the children helping! I hope you’re all very happy in your new home
Well done!!! So glad to have you back, can’t wait to see what you do with the house xxx
Knowing your family….as I do….. You always seem to pull together at these times Cherry. You are so lucky to have such a huge support system around you. Look at Garry playing up to the camera (another entertainer if ever I met one) and that look of ” seen it, been there, got the t- shirt ,” expression of your Dad. I have to say yours is one of the funniest and fun to be with families that I know. …….All completely barking though, has to be said.
Or was it Rawhide? mmmmmmmmmmm
Hey Mother trucker lets pray the old Scots Gaelic blessing over you all, that the wind will always be at your back.
Oh, gosh – now the real fun begins. I look forward to your making this a home for you and your family and seeing what the twins are up to next! The view from the backyard is beyond beautiful. And the teaser bit you posted of the front doesn’t look half bad either..
Wagons ho o o o. Showing my age. Does anyone else remember Wagon Train. Hmmmm
How exciting! Well done on moving without a removal company, although having a week rather than one day to move probably made that easier. Really looking forward to seeing what you do in this new house. Hope you made time to pour yourself a massive glass of prosecco!

Applause, applause!! You, your lovely family, and your stuff are all inside your new FOREVER home!! Your beautiful plants are outside your new FOREVER home!!! Once the essentials are tucked away in their new places, the fun can begin and you can live with joy!
Your new home certainly has a wonderful banister (if very firm) and a marvelous view across the fields!
How sweet it is! Hugs!
What fabulous ceilings! No doubt one of your delicious dinners will restore harmony once you are all settled in. I swear moving ages one a minimum of two years.
We moved three weeks ago to our new home and I kinda cringed when I read your post. I totally feel every word of yours NEVER MOVE HOUSE AGAIN.
The worst thing that left a scar on me not just physically but ‘traumatically’ is the california king size bed! What in the world were we thinking when we bought that mattress???
But love to see your new home.
Sat in Marks cafe resting from shopping on my first day of maternity leave (3weeks to go!)…. Thank you for making me laugh, the perfect thing to read while sat here. So glad you’ve moved in and hope you’ve all recovered from the ordeal! What we do without the help of great friends and family, glad all relationships are still in tact.
Look forward to future posts and hearing how you’ve settled in.
Love low x
Oh, I had to laugh! From my U.S. driver’s perspective, I thought you were going for a RIDE, instead of a DRIVE!! In my time, I’ve learned never to say never! Sometimes it comes back to bite you. Even so, I wish you many days of happy unpacking and arranging things with your sweet helpers.♥♫
We have missed you too Cherry but know how super busy you have been. Can’t wait for more posts!
Hurrah you’re back you sexy mother-trucker! I’ve missed you and I think I speak for everyone here, we’ve all missed you! I cannot wait to see your make overs – I’ll let you have a little (well deserved) rest first!
I once helped my old boss move their very large house and very large furniture, we named ourselves ‘Parp and Chuckle Removals’ due the unfortunate effect lifting heavy furniture had on their friend which made me laugh so much I couldn’t lift anything. We weren’t much help…
I also got my head stuck between the washing machine and a wall when I moved into my house, so I feel your pain Cherry – It’s almost back to normal four years later and I only look like a kidney bean from certain angles!
Congratulations and enjoy

Well done you! I bet you are glad that that’s it now. It looks like a mammoth effort and I think you all deserve a bit of downtime. Knowing you though Cherry, it will be full steam ahead in getting everything sorted and then on to project number 1 – whatever that may be. I’m looking forward to finding out!
Take care,
Bex.x
ha ha! but now you are in, and you never have to move again. Ever. This is it. Home for life!
Enjoy it.

Yay! Our last move consisted of 4 trips in vintage Mark 1 Transit camper, 2 trips in high top Bedford van, 4 cars and more friends and family than you can shake a stick it! Thankfully the mother-in-law made tea and sarnies and we got the lot done in one (long) day
But no kids and no garden to move… just one slightly confused kitty!! Well done to you all, now you can relax and take your time making it your home. Have fun! You crazy mother-trucker

“sexy mother-trucker” !!! Cherry, that made me laugh loads! You’ve cheered up what looked to be a bit of a miserable Monday! So glad to hear you’ve finally moved and can really start to do what you do best – making a house really homely. Sods law it’s sunny here in sussex today, enjoy the sun and your new home x
How exciting and what a fantastically packed van! I am never moving again either, and I last moved eight years ago and was expecting my twins at the time! Looking forward to seeing your new home!

Hurrah! Congratulations! You may not have resorted to drink but I on the other hand did when I last moved house, picture the scene…a 16th Century cottage with no level floor ANYWHERE in the house, wonky doorways and very modern Ikea furniture! My sister in law and I were found in the kitchen necking vodka and baileys from miniatures I had found in the depths of the boxes – the boys were not amused! Can’t wait to see what you have planned – enjoy every second

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Love this. Cx
All looks great fun! We moved ourselves (without removal men) last September and the scars are only now healing! Looking forward to seeing all that the new house has to offer.
Robert has the biggest bruise I have ever seen. It is purple!
How exciting Cherry! Your new home looks lovely so far, can’t wait to see more of the new house and to have you back here again, I’ve been missing your lovely posts xx
Well done on a great moving job! Wishing you all the very best in your new home and looking forward to the tour! xx♥xx
After having a new bed & mattress delivered, I now fully understand the whole connect together bed base thing. LOL
You are so lucky you have such a helpful family, have to say I would definitely need to have hired professionals.
The garden looks lovely!! Especially love the sheep in the background.
Cheers
