We exchanged on our new house. We hope to complete on Friday. It’s been a battle to get this house, let me tell you. But it looks like we’re there. I look forward to welcoming you in through the front door.
I look forward to giving it a makeover, extending the porch, laying a new path with my own hands, digging borders and planting them, lighting pumpkin lanterns to sit on the steps and the benches that I’m going to build. I look forward to showing you the space lit up with golden fairy lights at Christmastime and asking you in to the warm to share a virtual hot chocolate with me in front of the fire.
I look at this front door and see the potential and a million makeovers but what I see most of all is a home that is ours. A home that will see our kids grow up. A forever home.
Thank God!
It is a forever home with huge white hydrangea bushes flanking the front door. I’ve always been a sucker for that Cape Cod/Hamptons aesthetic, but you know that, and I shall explore it to the hilt in this house.
I love you and thank you for reading. If we have an internet signal on Friday I’ll Tweet and Facebook as we start to move the first few bits in to the new place. It all begins in earnest next Tuesday and will take a few days.

Lovely Cherry: I’m so happy, as if I were to move. It’s gonna be fantastic!
Fantastic news, hope all goes well for you on Friday. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this house and garden. Must say it looks an interesting house for you to get your teeth into, can’t wait. All the very best for a smooth move as possible. xx
I am someone who has never had a facebook page, a tweet or left a comment about ANYTHING (I am socialble thought lol). But I have been following your website since 2005-2006 and have seen your progression in life. And when I saw that you had exchanged I had a big smile and a big “YAAAAY”.
Well done and what plans you have are gorgeous. You truely give me inspiration on many things for my home, garden and allotment. I want to thank you for your wonderful look on life through troubles and all. I could go on and on but i will just simple say “thank you”
Lucy.xx
Looks lovely Cherry! I’m excited for all the beautiful things you are going to do to it! Chloe! Xoxo
A frequent reader here wishing you the very best on this new adventure.
Wonderful news Cherry – I bet you are just breathing a big sigh of relief now… and inhaling another one ready for the move to exhale when you’re finally in.
I hope the weather clears up a bit for you else you are going to have a few wet removal men traipsing in and out – not that I imagine you will care!
I’m looking forward to seeing the transformation begin and to being inspired all over again. Will it be new carpets for Christmas again this year?
Take care, and good luck with the move, Bex.x
Congratulations Cherry! What wonderful news, so excited for you and your little family

Looks gorgeous – I bet there’s some lovely stained glass hiding behind that front door. Nearly there now!
Firsty – congratulations, and I can’t wait to see your new house as it develops.
Secondly, I was thinking about how I tackle major projects and I was wondering if you are the same. How will you begin? (Perhaps there is a whole post in this for you!) Are you the type of person to do big cosmetic things first in order to make yourself happy in your surroundings, no matter that the wall on which you’ve carefully placed a gallery is falling down, or do you do all the major, hidden construction work first, before embarking on the detail? Will you buy your hydrangeas before you do the porch remodelling or will you wait until it’s ready? Will you work systematically from room to room, and from area to area, completing each as you go, or will you hop about the whole of your garden and house at the same time, trying to make it grow together, even if it’s not perfect? In other words, do you make-do and prettify in the full knowledge that it will all have to be done again? Or is it a mixture?
I have to say that I am the type of person to make things look pretty just because they have to be like that to make me happy, but this really frustrates my husband because he likes all the groundwork to be completed first – I cannot bare months of things looking a mess, but he’s looking at the bigger picture. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with dressing up something ugly even though you know it’ll soon be ripped out later – how about you?
I suspect you will have to make big (and small) pretty gestures in order to create posts for this blog, and because we all know that you love to be surrounded by beautiful things! There is a lot of joy and satisfaction in transformations – so I suspect that you are going to be very busy, at times frustrated, and very happy as you tootle along with your paintbrush and your spade!
Sorry for the ramble – I was just wondering about your process – how do you get there on your journeys of creativity? (Feel free to reply later – you’re a bit busy right now!)
All best wishes, Cara x
I am really excited for seeing your makeovers.
I hope this home brings good luck to you and you’ll be happy forever in there.
Oops I meant good luck with the move. lol x
Hello Cherry
Your new front door looks fabulous, can’t wait to see inside. Hope everything goes well for you and your family. I follow you regularly. I live in France and I love it, but when I see your lovely photos etc it makes me feel homesick.
Good luck with the love. Lots of love Jx

All the best for the next week or so. Low x
Yay! I know how it feels to rent… rent… and rent some more and I look forward to having a day like this of my own at some point! My son is a little younger than the twins and I have another on the way so a “forever home” is a dream!
Sadly, we married in Aug 2007, then the financial collapse happened, swiftly followed by redundancy for both of us so buying has not been on the table so far!! I am very excited for you! x
I actually just squealed! That photo is very tantalising, can’t wait to see inside. Love older houses, is it thirties? Congrats! x
Congratulations!! Looking forward to the virtual tour and your new book being delivered!

oh HURRAH! That’s the moment you just want to reach, exchange. A simple word, but one that means so much!
Good luck to you in Chez Menlove, I’m sure it’ll soon look fabulous, but promise me something, you won’t do absolutely everything yourself? Let others help, or you will just wear yourself out!
Congratulations. Genuinely fabulous news, and knowing that your home is truly ‘yours’ is the most precious feeling in the world.
enjoy it
