The best thing about home for me…its the one place in the world I am totally free and I can be anything I want to be xx

*******************************************************************************

I have to tell you I love the giveaways I’m able to host on this site. I’m able to share some amazing things with you, you get to be sent a treat, there are some fabulous businesses (both small and large) featured and I’m always very excited to tell you all about them.

Today I have an absolute treat for you.

The smell in a home is absolutely vital. It’s vital to your well being, to your family’s well being and to the guests who pass by. I want my house to have a feel good smell. One that makes people feel enlivened and fresh and hopeful and reinvigorated. While at the same time make them feel welcomed and cosy, warm and loved.

Tall order, huh?

Well I think I may have found something that fits the bill.

I was introduced to Neom Luxury Organics by a friend of mine. A little known fact about me (or perhaps not so little known) is that I am obsessed with smell in my home which is why I found it hard to rent for the last three years before buying our forever home. It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with the smells of the other houses at all, it’s just that they weren’t ours. I want to be able to walk in the door and to smell home. Which is what I find myself doing now, and the smell is an absolute delight to be honest.

I have Neom’s Sicilian Lemon and Fresh Basil reed diffuser in my entrance hall. It’s a strategic move to have it there and this is why – you can walk around the downstairs of my house in one big circle. When all of the doors are open the kids do a few circuits before bedtime and pass by in front of my eyes every few moments. Which is why I put the reed diffuser in the entrance. Because not only will I, and everyone who walks across my threshold, be greeted by SICILIAN LEMONS (I die!!) but the scent travels softly and subtly through every room on the ground floor and gently lifts my spirits, the scent of lemon does that, did you know?

My sumptuous Rose & Neroli treatment candle has to be a little more portable I’m afraid. This candle travels, let me tell you. From sitting room to bedroom, office to bubble bath. Its evocative scent making me feel utterly pampered, calmer, and more like the person I know I really am. As opposed to the stressed out banshee that walks the woods of West Sussex at night searching for some ibuprofen!

I love this. There are inspirational quotes all over the packaging and inside the boxes. This is the way forward people, we just have to notice the moments and act upon them.

This is a shot of a candle at its absolute best if you ask me. Just lit and for the first time. If it were up to me I would only ever use candles once before starting a new one for the next occasion. But unfortunately I have a thing about wastage (!!) and it may work out kinda pricy. And when it comes to scented candles, let me tell you, I burn them for so long in order to get every single drop of oil out of them, that the glass cracks! But I love unwrapping a new candle so I was excited when I got to light my new Neom.

Now here’s the best bit, I, courtesy of Neom Luxury Organics, have both of these home fragrances to giveaway to one beautiful person today. Your home will smell like mine! This is a good thing, I promise, because I’m a home scent obsessive and I light my candle as soon as I walk in to the room.

Neom will ship the reed diffuser and the candle to ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, so feel free to enter as many times as you like, from wherever you like by leaving a comment on this post. All you have to do is tell me one thing to enter -

What is the best thing about being home?

  1. At the moment we are living in rented accommodation as our own forever home is under renovation. It has been nearly 3 months since we left after having lived there for 5 years and nobody could have prepared us for how hard this would be. We feel like a piece of us is missing, we function differently as a family. It got to the point were just last Sunday, my son, daughter and I, whilst Dad was busy, got in the car and drove the 10 miles to our home village, found the most un-dusty corner at the tippy top of the house in one of the guest rooms and stayed there reading and playing for over an hour just soaking up the atmosphere, smells, familiarity. Hopefully by the end of this month we will be home again and I doubt we will leave again for a very long time.

What is the best thing about home? Peace from within. XX

  3. Abi says:

“A true home is one of the most sacred of places. It is a sanctuary into which men flee from the world’s perils and alarms. It is a resting-place to which at close of day the weary retire to gather new strength for the battle and toils of tomorrow. It is the place where love learns its lessons, where life is schooled into discipline and strength, where character is molded.” – J R Miller

  4. Nicola says:

I feel safe and at peace. It is my haven. xx

  5. Claire H says:

The best thing about being home is my new husband and the love and security he provides. I wouldn’t be anywhere else. Cx

  6. The best thing about being home is being able to relax and enjoy the quiet. Thank you! Pamie G.

  7. The best thing about being at home is my husband and dog but my husband just went to Afghanistan and isn’t home until Jan 2013 so I can’t say that with a straight face!

At the moment the best thing about being at home is waking up in the morning with the breeze coming through the window with the heady smell of the cherry tree outside thick in the air. If only I could reach the cherries they are so high up!

  8. Zoe says:

The best thing about home is being able to have pyjama days with something delicious baking in the oven. Total chillax time!!!

  9. Bron says:

The best thing about being at home is that I feel young, old, together with my family, independent with my choices all at once… My past and present – be it through my pictures, hand-me-down linen or the small of a casserole made to my Grandmother’s recipe – makes my house a home. My home.

  10. Victoria says:

The best thing about being at home is forgetting the stresses and strains of the day, and that *sigh* of relief as you enter the front door (and being greeted by the, slightly crazy, cat!)

  11. Gemma Thomas says:

The best thing about being home is the overwhelming feeling of contentment.

  12. Emma says:

The best thing about being home is knowing its where you have everything you need to get crafty, or cook, or bake your friends the yummiest chocolate cake they’ve ever tasted. It’s the creative hub of all the ideas and inspirations you’ve gathered from outside on your travels or just day to day. And it’s where the love is that’s needed make these things worth while, whether it’s your family or friends on the sofa, or your beautiful fluffy cat in the window by a vase of flowers, home is where we all feel feel most comfortable and free to be ourselves, because we’ve made it ourselves.

  13. Karen says:

The best thing about being home for me is to be surrounded by my family and sharing it with our friends too. Noise, fun, laughter and chatter of those we love most. Bliss!

  14. Stacey says:

    Best thing about being home?

Being able to relax and spend quality time with my boyfriend in our first home, and with the cat – undisturbed!

  15. Paula says:

My children and I moved into our home from the only house they’d ever known, following the break up of the family: we were the walking wounded. When I first viewed it, I felt as though it was wrapping its arms around us all and saying ‘come in, everything will be ok’. I got no further than the hall before I decided to buy it and I still have that feeling every time I walk through the door.

    xx

  16. Emma Lamb says:

The best thing about being home is family – whether grown up and sharing lunches and dinners, love and laughter back at your family home or your home you have started with a partner and children. I recently moved back home after 11 years to start a business and without this opportunity from my mum I would not have been able to have a go at following my dreams. XX

The smell of the woods by the house as I walk up the path and the sight of my family (human and animal) all rushing to see me and overwhelming me with love.

  21. april hallberg says:

The best thing about my home is the rush of little feet to the door yelling “mommy!” with a big hug, whether I’ve been gone a few hours or a few minutes:) Thanks, Cherry, for the giveaway!

  22. Lucy says:

The best thing about being home…it has to be my library of books! And snuggling up on the sofa under a blanket with whatever one I feel like reading..

  23. Tori says:

The best thing about being home is that after the toughest of days you can walk through that front door and it’s like your body takes in a big breath of fresh air. It’s like a relief, and you just go ‘aaaaaahhhh’. The reason home makes you feel this way is because it’s where your family are and the walls breathe happy memories.
