Hello!
Welcome to the week here at Cherry Menlove.com We have so much to tell you, show you and give you this week that I’m bursting to get going. So I shall…….
Mothering Sunday is this coming Sunday here in the UK so we’re getting ahead of ourselves and uploading the how-to for this darling cushion at the start of the week in case any of you want to have a go at making it. Don’t worry about being too ‘crafty’ as you don’t need to be to make this item. Besides, I very much dislike the snobbery that goes along with some crafting communities and try to avoid them at all costs if I can. I simply like to get on with it!
We used an off- white linen fabric for our cushion and used the same type of linen for our embroidered front piece.
- Start by double hemming and pinning a small hem all the way around your piece of linen fabric and then machine all four hems in to place, this will stop fraying.
- Take your cushion pad and place it in the middle of your hemmed fabric and encase the cushion with the fabric, folding the fabric around it, this will give you a good guide where it needs to be pinned once the cushion has been removed.
- Note: The fabric should be inside out so that the hems are facing out the way, as once the fabric is pinned and machined together, the cushion cover will be turned back the right way out and the hems will remain hidden inside.
- When it comes to pinning the sides of the cushion, you will obviously need to remove the cushion before you hem it in place so try to observe or even measure where the hems will be before you remove it. Or simply pin along the inside of the existing hems as shown in the picture above.
- Note: Remember that the cushion should be pinned inside out as once it’s sewn up it will then be turned back the right way.
- When both the edges have been machined turn the cushion cover back the right way out
- Insert the cushion to make sure it fits but it isn’t too snug as this will be done at the next step. You should be able to pinch a hem of about 1cm all the way around as this will create the border.
- Remove the cushion and pin a 1cm border all the way around the cushion.
- Machine stitch this border. You’ll see that the pins are simply acting as a guide……
- ….. Creating a 1cm border all the way around the cushion.
- You will need an extra piece of linen fabric for the embroidery pattern measuring around 14x14cm. Double hem the square piece of fabric with a small hem as this will avoid fraying.
- Trace over my free downloadble pattern onto your linen square with a light pencil or draw freehand on to yours.
- Embroider over the penciled pattern using the coloured threads we have suggested.
- When you have completed your embroidery, hand sew the fabric square onto the front of the cushion cover and decorate with some pretty buttons at either corner of the embroidery to add a frame, of sorts, to the front panel.
- Finally, present the cushion to your mama on Mother’s Day with a big bunch of flowers to say thank you for carrying you for NINE WHOLE MONTHS!!!! Yep, I’m getting bigger daily and expect a great deal of thanks from the Meatballs when they are old enough to sit up by themselves!
- I’m joking, please Mommy Bloggers, don’t write in to me!!!!!
Wishing a very Happy Mother’s day to all of you Mother’s and Mother’s to be
Cx

Coming soon……
Robert the Husband likes to make bread, here’s a loaf he made yesterday morning. I believe that after a week navigating the City of London he enjoys pummeling dough and has offered to document all of his findings, discoveries and recipes for me to put up on to this website of mine. He has promised with all of his heart that the recipes will be as simple as he can make them as I think that bread making can infuriate and scare in equal measure. I know that it took me ten years to make bread again after someone said that a loaf I had made could very easily have sunk the Titanic!!!!!
Don’t worry. The loaf in question was imbedded in to his head before the sentence had finished leaving his mouth.

I’m going to make your cushion this weekend Cherry. I just has that lovely realisation that I am going to be a mummy this time next year and will get to enjoy mother’s day in a whole new way. What a beautifu thought.
I hope you have a glorious day with Ned and Anais and of course your husband.
My baby bump is sending me kicks to tell me it loves me already. Is there a better thing?
