It’s Thursday, so today we’re entertaining & celebrating.
Candy Cone Favours
The month of May sees the start of the wedding season. From now until September its possible that you’ll have more weddings in your diary than at other times of the year. I personally had always envisaged that I’d get married on Christmas Eve. Something about the cosiness of it all appealed to me, but having seen Yosemite Chapel in August my mind was promptly changed. This happens a lot as the sunny weather appeals to a great many bridal parties as the wedding date is set.
If you are planning a bridal shower or would like some sweet gifts to give out at the end of the big day (or any other celebration come to that) then these Candy Cone favours are a great place to start. I have been at weddings where the favours have been so elaborate that it hasn’t surprised me to hear that the bridal party has been pulling all nighter’s for the past year in order to hand sew crystals onto each and every one. This is not a stress that is entirely necessary. I have found that people like things to appear personal to them and remind them of simple times, friends & family. Everything that a wedding or a celebration should be about.
As you can probably tell these favours are simply paper cones, with a ball of tissue paper in the bottom to add stability, stuffed with inordinate amounts of sweeties and personalised with a decorated parcel tag. It can’t get much simpler. But what you’ll also see is that even though I only made eight of them (we had a teeny tiny gathering to make them for) the colours used made them appear like a much larger and grander idea than they really were.
The parcel tags were decorated using trims and paper that were sourced entirely from my stash. Jo-Jo and I had a great afternoon of ‘carpet crafting’ with scissors and glue. Simple as that.
The cones themselves were fastened together with the most adorable button stickers and the tags were, again, glued in to place but only after having been written out to the recipient.
Sweeties such as marshmallows, jelly babies and jelly beans were added but you can even make them using small fruits such as apricots and blueberries when the season arrives. I have to admit to liking the sound of fruit cones a lot more than stuffing my face with a large quantity of jelly beans………Oops, its a little late for that I fear!!!!

Coming soon……
I’ve been picking the first Asparagus of the season and have been munching on it ever since. I’ve got a cracking recipe that I’m looking forward to uploading to the site……
……and Jodie? Well Jodie has been getting busy with a needle and thread and has started to hand make a quilt all by herself. She’s not using a book, a pattern or a tried and tested method. She’s going it alone, with no time limit and seeing how it turns out. Good on you, Jo-Jo!
I’ll be back tomorrow. I’ve had several emails asking me about the pots on my windowsill and I’ll be posting on how to make them weatherproof tomorrow.
Have a great day and I’ll see you back here in the morning!
