These quantities will make approximately 2 litres of lemonade:
- 9 lemons (8 for juicing, 1 for slicing)
- 130g granulated sugar
- 1 litre water
- Lots of ice!
- 2 litre jug/pitcher
- Take eight of your lemons and slice them in half.
- Now juice those eight lemons – ideally it is best to juice your lemons using an electric juicer, as you will get more juice from them this way. If you don’t have an electric juicer then use a glass or plastic juicer but make sure you get all of the juice out using muscle and sheer willpower.
- Set your freshly squeezed lemon juice aside
- Take your ninth lemon and slice it into cartwheel slices and set them aside.
- Measure out the sugar and add directly to the jug.
- Then slowly add the water stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until the sugar has dissolved.
- Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice and continue to stir the ingredients together.
- Top up the jug with as much ice as the pitcher holds (really do fill it to the top), as this drink is best served ice chilled.
- Finally add your cartwheel slices of lemon to the pitcher for decoration and that extra zingy summertime kick.
- Serve immediately.
We drank this lemonade on the day we built the fence. It was served with other drinks including a shop bought cloudy lemonade and this one went down the best! It doesnt take long even if you’re juicing the lemons yourself. In fact, the next time I make it I’ll discard the electric juicer and opt for a workout. There is something intrinsically summery about juicing by hand.
See you tomorrow morning.
I would appear to have Sweet Peas popping up all over the the place and I thought you may like a look.
