Cherry’s Apple Door Wreath
This is the type of project that I love. Its simple, its quick but its effective and warm. Its entirely seasonal and utterly charming.
Tools and materials needed – 14/15 apples, one knitting needle, 1 wire hanger (“no wire hangers in this closet, Christina!!”) , two lengths of contrasting ribbon approx 12″ in length.
Take each apple and carefully poke the knitting needle through the middle of the apple. Do it slowly and work it through rather than just prodding.
Once you’ve finished skewering your apples thread them on to a wire hanger that you have untwisted and stretched in to a long piece of wire. Once all your apples are on the hanger twist the two end pieces together and flatten down, sealing the ring of apples. Don’t worry too much about how the wire looks at this point as we’re going to cover it up with our lengths of ribbon.
Snip the end of one of the lengths of ribbon and wrap it around the join in the wire ring in order to cover it.
Take the rest of the ribbon and tie two bows with each length making one wider the other. Place the narrower bow on top of the wider one and tie them to the top of the wreath using a piece of the top bows ribbon or something really simple like a length of cotton.
Hang it on your front door or even on the door of your potting shed as I have done. I can see my new wreath out of my kitchen window as I stand at my sink. It’s colourful and inviting and reminds me the best ways of making our houses into homes are often the most simple and seasonal.
