How – To – Lining Drawers

Do you have a set of drawers at home which you feel need  a bit of love and attention?

I do.

The inside of a set of drawers is often an area that can get forgotten but this simple project is rather cute and gives a lift to any tired drawer interior.

I have a set of walnut drawers in the reading corner on my landing. They were bought about three years ago in Abbotsbury, Dorset.

I like them a great deal, yet every time I open them they appear a little dull.

I started by choosing some vintage wallpaper samples I had saved  and raided various ribbons from my stash. The ‘look’ I opted for was pretty & light.

If the drawers you are lining are slightly curved, like mine, it can be tricky to get the cut of the paper just right, so take your time with it and cut on the generous side as you can always trim more off if necessary.

Once the paper was accurately cut for the first drawer lining the second was much easier as I had a template.

Once the paper had been cut to size and both the drawers had been lined, straight away they looked more colourful; but they needed something else…

Rick-rac is a rather awesome trim and a brilliant, sunny way to liven up almost anything.  I used it on top of a lacy trim in the top drawer and alone in the bottom. Contrasting colours of raspberry and lime.

I used a hot glue gun to secure the rick-rac in place and allowed it to dry.

And there they are.

Its very apparent to me that I am doing some serious premature nesting. August has not yet left us and already I am thinking about the colder, cosy days ahead. As I mentioned, the drawers reside in a reading corner I have on the landing and it has not been used AT ALL since we moved in. Some corners are seasonal and this corner is entirely Autumnal and even a little bit Christmassy. Hence the early start on getting it all ready.

Can you tell I was a Girl Scout when I was younger?

Can you also tell I got kicked out until I apologised for throwing raisins at Captain?
