Corners of My Home - February Dresser

Dressing Table Feb 2010 - 1

It dawned on me recently that I rarely show any pictures of my own private space within this house. Don’t worry I’m not going to delve too much in to my private life but I usually only seem show the corners that I’m working on for projects that will eventually go on to the website for you guys to try if you want to.

But the fact is I live and work here in equal measure and can often be found fiddling about and pottering in places that you’ll never see.

Our bedroom is a place that we’re working on, alongside the nursery, in anticipation of the twins arrival in about three and a half months time. They’ll be in with us for a bit after the birth and as I go into full on nesting mode I’m keen to get everything around us super prepared and ready.

A wardrobe that Robert dismantled a few months ago has been put back up and a set of Oak drawers that has been languishing in my parents store house will be collected soon.

Last week I cleared out the tall-boy / dresser  you see in the top picture and set about removing a lot of the items I had on there that were becoming dust gatherers.

I’d been looking for  a good spot for this picture for ages. I drew this using pastels and copying a coaster that has a design of a rose on it. It may not be technically correct but I think creating your own art for your home is the way forward because you get to choose a colour palette that fits your home perfectly and doesn’t require a huge financial investment.

I found the frame outside an art gallery on the streets of London about 7 years ago. Robert was rather horrified as it could have been that someone had just left it there for a moment while rushing back in to get something. I was more concered with whether or not a dog had peed up it!

I’ve kept the area very pale with moments of soft green and two family photographs to show the babies in the middle of the night.

Hyacinths are one of THE best ways of adding fragrance to a room. They emit a syrupy springtime fragrance that fills a room almost as soon as they arrive. Narcissus are also very good at doing this if you don’t want to use Hyacinths. My love of symmetry continues to make an appearance as I purge the house of clutter.

Apart from changing the flowers I’ll leave this area for a long time to come I think. It is complete for the foreseeable future and has become an area that I no longer need to think about but simply be pleased with.

Babies (especially two at once) bring with them rather a huge amount of equipment so any spaces that I can clear of superfluous ’stuff’ is a good thing.

Besides, who wouldn’t want to replace Caroline Zoob, Jo Malone and Chanel with a double electronic breast pump!
