Bringing the Flowers In

As I write this the twins are in bed, Robert is making supper and I have feet that are tired so they are tingling a little. It’s nice to be sitting down, tapping on the keyboard and be able to see Robert pottering in my peripheral vision.

We’ve hit this year running and already time is flying. Does it seem that way for you? The weather is warmer and wetter and has lost the pre-Christmas bite that was in the air for weeks.

I think it would be misleading to say that I’m starting a Spring Clean but I am starting something of a ‘sort out’. There are corners here there and everywhere that were hidden in the soft glow of fairy lights and tinsel. They have now risen to the surface and I’ll tell you…I can’t stand them.

Earlier in the day I decided I would bring something of a Spring touch inside, and for me that begins with flowers.

I bought roses and lilies at the supermarket. I trimmed the ends on a slant and removed the leaves right up to the top of the stem, leaving a few at the top.

I popped out in to the drizzle yesterday and cut a few slender branches from the Eucalyptus tree that sits towards the back of the house. The pale green of the younger branches sits nicely with the flowers and adds bulk.

Needless to say I couldn’t stop there and I began to potter. My dining room got a thorough seeing to yesterday. China came out of cupboards.

Cutlery was rubbed with a soft dry cloth and the laptop played music to dance around the room to in the background.

It felt good. Like the turning of a page, properly, in to the season they call Spring. Of course we’re not quite there yet but that doesn’t matter.

I fiddled.

And played.

And fiddled some more.

And then as I backed up to the corner of the room to take a picture my darling Anaïs thought I was leaving the room entirely and began to cry.

So I put the camera down and we had a cuddle.

In my nice new room.

So pretty! I noticed lots of ladies buying flowers this morning in the super market. I think you’ve hit on something here. We need a bit of beauty to perk up our hearts in this wild world with endless foggy days dampening everyone’s spirits. I have to say how attentive a mother you are to put little Anais’ needs to your camera. It’s the small gestures that add up in the long term where children are concerned.

Dear Cherry, your white color scheme is lovely, but I couldn’t help but chuckle, remembering the finger printing set my, at the time childless, sister gave our oldest son. I was giving a perm to a friend while our youngest son and her youngest were upstairs playing. All was great until total silence, now when that happens PAY ATTENTION!!!! We both ran up the stairs to find that one little vial of graphite was all over the floors, walls, boys and towels in the linen closet!!!!!!It was too funny, they both looked like coal miners!!! After having chickens, dogs, mud, boys etc. My dream home is all tile with a drain in the middle and a hose scented with lavender to was everything down!!!
I will just have to live vicariously in your lovely home!LOL!

These pictures are so hard to wrap my mind around. I am just settling in to the long winter. My wool scarve pulled up to my ears, skating on the canal which has just opened and copious amounts of red wine by candle light. I look forward to spring (when it arrives in 3-4 months) but for now I am quite content in my winter wonderland. I hope you enjoy your pottering, it looks like you will bring in “the season” with great excitement this year.

    Cheers
    Di

I also started with a spring clean and there so mucho to be done!! I´m cleaning all the closets and drawers and it feels so good to start the year with a really clean house. I´ve taken all the clothes and shoes that don´t fit my children to charity, also the toys ( I spent a hole day putting together all the outfits of Superman and all the super heroes and put them in individual bags ).
Where I live in Mexico is very cold and there are communities that need a blanket or a sweater or a pair of shoes that still are in a good shape so I suppose it´s a good thing to help them with a little bit.
Have a lovely day! In this part of the world is very cold, blue skies and a lot of very cold wind.

Ive been fiddling too and finished your advent stockings. I have to get some wool for them to be strung up on, but I tried to keep as close to your ones as possible as I loved them. Ive posted them on my blog. Still not as good as yours but I did have fun!!
    Thanks
    Cherry at the simple things
