Try This! Storing Cake Cases in a Spaghetti Jar

I found myself up in London yesterday and in the office of a dear friend. She was telling me how she had just had a huge de-cluttering session at her house and how she was now going to start on her office. I asked her whether it felt good to have her entire home ‘sorted’ and she closed her eyes, smiled and nodded. A look that all at once expressed relief, contentment, success and peace.

I understand that feeling. I love it when I get areas of my life and home sorted. When I know exactly where I can lay my hands on a bill or important letter. When my children’s clothes have all been washed and put away and even the nappy bags are in the right place. I love it when I look at a space or corner of my house and everything is where it should be. What this means to me is that I don’t have to deal with it anymore. It has been taken care of and I am now free to do something else without it weighing on my mind. I have enough on my mind, I don’t need corners and inanimate objects also jostling for space.

Which brings me neatly to today’s idea. I saw this storage suggestion several times while on a late night surfing trip around the internet and it immediately reminded me of the huge number of cupcake cases that I have spilling out of boxes, falling off of shelves and currently residing on the floor.

Spaghetti jars.

One from Ikea and one from Le Parfait.

I can see exactly what cake cases I have left and don’t have to root around looking for the right size or colour. Which means I won’t end up buying duplicate, therefore it’s a nice way of saving a few quid too!

The cases will stay clean, dust free and the jars themselves will look good on the open shelving that I’m having in the new kitchen.

I could really get in to this ‘new ideas for storage’ lark and see huge amounts of glass jars in my future.

Do you have any different kitchen storage ideas or do you love Le Parfait as much as me?

Have a great day. I love you and thank you for reading.

Cherry

Fab idea! I keep tea bags in my Grandma’s old Willow china teapot. People think i’m nuts! It had a bit of a crack down the side (so not suitable for tea) so it seemed pretty logical to me to keep tea in it and It looks beautiful with my blue and white Boleslawiec pottery!

Hi Cherry – these are so pretty. Where did you get the wee geart ‘with love’ signs from. They really complete the look! x

I recently transferred all my baking ingredients into jars like these making it so much easier to see what I have at a quick glance. Now I shall use another for my cupcake cases – excellent idea, thanks! Love your photos :)

,,,i just saw this brilliant idea on pinterest this evening while poking around and said to self “i have to organize my cuppy-cake sleeves just like this”,,,and how cute will they be on your open kitchen shelving,,,while i don’t have open shelving i think one could display the container(s) appropriate to the holiday and seasons and they will add a bit of cute to the decor of the kitchen,,,

Very pretty, but where do you keep your spaghetti?? ( i keep mine in an old tin that came with a bottle of champagne in it! May disappoint some, but not as much as I get disappointed when I remember my Quality Street tin now has savoury crackers in it!!)
I love sorting things out too, did 3 kitchen cupboards this week.Hope all at well at yours x

    Cherry,

That’s a great idea! I never thought to store cupcake cases in a jar. Love this idea and will be transferring all of them into glass jars this evening as soon as I get home from work!

I have a “thing” for glass jars. I store all my left overs in glass jars (whenever possible). Unlike plastic storage bowls, glass does not stain and you can see exactly what’s in the jar.

Other uses: cotton balls, Q-tips, lace, buttons, threads, dry ingriedients (cocoa, sugar, flour, baking soda etc.), tea bags, cookie cutters, plant food, nails. I like making decorative labels, too.

In other words, if it can fit into a glass jar, that’s where it’s going to be stored! :-)

  9. Oh yes we do this at Thrifty Towers too. It makes it easy to change out colours in the kitchen/storage areas.
    Your photos are beautiful!

Brilliant!!! I tried a ziplock baggie for cupcake papers and it’s too unwieldy.
A glass jar is perfect. I love keeping toothpicks in jars. The longer ones, used for hors d’oeuvres or something, are easier to use for cake testing. They fit in a Coleman’s mustard jar quite nicely and are within reach without spilling from a box.

  11. The approaching Fall and Winter months must be giving us ALL the nesting and organizing urge! I just spent 3 days emptying out every cabinet in my kitchen, scrubbing the interiors, and throwing away anything I did’t seem to be using. When I got to the pantry, I put all of my dry foods in OXO POP Containers and I am smugly THRILLED every time I open that door. So pretty, so stacked, so organized! I only had two of the glass containers like you used, but they are skinny and tall, so they snugged right in next to the square containers. Makes me want to cook something, every time I open that door!

Great idea and so pretty in the pantry! Someone should have invented one a long time ago. I get so annoyed with the pleated ones after they relax a bit too much and no longer fit the baking pans properly.

  13. Laura says:

I have different colours and shapes of cookie cutters in one, sugar with the vanilla pods I brought back from Madagascar (smells divine!) in the Kitchen. And some thread bobbins in another. Love all the colours together. x

  14. Im completely with you on the le parfait jars – in fact i have to keep myself away from Lakeland for fear of bankrupting myself buying all the jars they have lol :-)
I have recently put my ribbons and buttons into glass jars… Its great being able to see what you have and they are so pretty it always seemed a waste for them to be hidden away in a box!! As an extra money saving tip, I have also used empty yankee candle jars as well :-)
Much love to you, Robert and the babies

Oh my goodness that’s brilliant! I currently have cupcake cases residing in a manner of places including a plastic box in my attic which is not ideal but now want to get straight home from work to sort it all out!! x Gemma

  19. Great idea Cherry!

My mum uses a glass soap dispenser from Ikea for washing up liquid.

    (picture on here) http://musings-of-a-gem.blogspot.com/2010/05/few-ideas-and-favourites-id-like-to.html

It looks a lot more sightly than a plastic bottle.

Good idea, and looks very pretty :) I keep old baby formula boxes, and use them to store flour, sugar, etc for baking. Doesn’t look pretty, but really helps to keep my baking cupboard a bit more tidy, and saves flour and sugar spilling out :)

Great idea. I love to know people’s sorting and storage ideas. De cluttering does make you feel good…….must get on and do some!

  22. sadie says:

yes and yes. I have exactly the same thing in my pantry. a Le parfait jar filled to the brim with cake cases. It is brilliant. They don’t get squished, lost or dirty. I’ve noticed I have a bit of a ‘thing’ (read ‘unhealthy obsession’) for cake cases. When I see new style ones I just HAVE to get them. I have the pink version of the blue dotsy ones you have there, and have you tried the little waxed cups? (sometimes called sauce cups or souffle cups), they are so good for making teeny tiny cakes and the cakes literally slip out of them. I am not a fan of silicone. I read about how good they are, but whenever I’ve used them, the cakes (and jellies when trying to turn out of moulds) just stick and make a mess.

I’m currently using a soap dish for my eggs. Which makes no sense at all, but looks rather pretty! ooh, I have a photo on my Flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/8100824@N06/6099216724/in/photostream

have been reading about the weather this morning. Apparently snow as early as October this year, with the Midlands and South East being worst hit. Thought I’d give you a heads up on that! I’ve already stocked up on salt for the path! ;)

    Have a glorious day xx

  23. Paula says:

I am so pinching this idea! I regularly find myself under a shower of cupcake cases when I pull out the flour and sugar for a baking session. Genius! x

  24. Emma Lamb says:

Fantastic idea – I was just wondering what to do with all mine the other day whilst having a sort out!! XX

  25. Kate says:

this is a FANTASTIC idea – i am doing this as soon as i get home, thanks for sharing it Cherry x

That is so cute, will definitely give it a go. And it’s given me a brilliant Christmas pressie idea for my cupcake-baking friends, so thank you Cherie! I love pretty, quirky storage ideas. So far my favourites have been Bonne Maman jars for paperclips, elastic bands etc (always brightly coloured ones) and the gorgeous old biscuit tins I keep my jewellery in. Have a beautiful day people!
      ps oooooh snow, lovely!!!
