I now have a comments function. Please feel free to leave me a message at the bottom.
I stepped out this morning with my coffee, my feet in Birkenstocks with socks on (someone please save me from myself!!) and my pajamas on. I looked this way and that and tried to capture this moment of beauty in my backyard to share with you.
It was dead quiet and my babies were napping after their morning feed.

The light is now different due to the time of year and the dew lays like a soggy blanket on the grass. My feet were soaking by the end of my walk but my coffee still tasted gooooodd!

Last Autumn Robert and I planted two step-over Apple trees and two step-over Pear trees. I wanted to create a low hedge that contained fruit. My step-overs are slightly more unruly than I’d like them to be but that is my fault for not pruning the way I should. However, they are growing and have now reached the point where the two varieties of trees touch each other. This reminds me of the Michelangelo……

And now we have our first fruits. Well, fruit…singular. We have a grand total of one apple and I’m as happy as I can be about this. You see I believe that one can turn in two and two can turn in to four and four can turn into eight and before you know it you have more than you could ever ask or dream for.

And I really don’t see the point in keeping all that I have all to myself so I hope you don’t mind if I share my first apple with you.
Since opening up the comments function I have been so moved by those of you who take the time out of your day to leave me a message. I’ve always said this on Facebook and Twitter when folk have left me messages. Thank you so much.
Right now I only have the one apple to split with you but who knows how many there will be next time!
Thank you so much for reading and have a wonderful weekend.
I love you all and wish for your worlds to multiply.

Your pictures are beautiful, they express how much I love gardening. They cheer me when I feel a bit down. they remind me sometimes of what life is about and how much beauty surrounds us.
Thank you for that!
Reminds me of my first attempt at growing tomatoes this summer… one lovely tiny little red tomato. It tasted wonderful. Hope your apple is just as tasty.

Wow! What kind of apple tree is that? I thought almost all fruit trees, at least apple trees, needed many years to finally produce fruit. I have two Honeycrisp trees that we planted at least 6 or 7 years ago. One of them is finally covered in small apples this year. Probably it’s our elevation of 7,150 feet and our Winter climate that makes it take so long. Also, I have never heard of “stepover” fruit trees. You English! You are such gardeners. I love it.
Ooooooh what LOVELY pictures – I absolutely love the light at this time of year and am always snapping away with my camera – either out in the countryside or in my garden. Beautiful!!! I can ‘feel’ the atmosphere
(And talking of soggy feet – I’ve just come back in from the garden where I decided to plant a Penstemon which I’d grown from a cutting, wearing my slippers (pink), pink socks and my fluffy white dressing-gown… tsk!!!) Have a lovely weekend…
We will have to start calling you “Cherry Appleseed”
Enjoy that beautiful apple!
Oh, how beautiful! This apple should be immortalized in a lovely painting for you to cherish forever. If you could bottle one ounce of your enthusiasm and positive outlook I’d be first in line.
I love your step-over apple trees! We live in Southern California, and last year we planted an apple tree in our backyard. This summer we had eight apples. Oh my, we were so excited, we danced around our kitchen in glee (okay, I danced — my husband merely smiled) as we bit into our very own apples. Hopefully next year the crop will increase.
We have a lime tree, an orange tree, and several other fruit trees, but there’s something about apples that just seems magical. We are still so tickled with ourselves for producing our very own apples in our backyard.
Thanks for sharing your pics. I love your blog. Your yard is gorgeous!
Enjoy your apple….just think when you have loads you can invite us all
