What’s Occuring!

This weekend is a long weekend for some of us.

Here are some of the things we were meant to be doing, should be doing, would like to be doing….

Building a fence. We’re quite good at building fences as you can see here!

Having a barbeque. Nope, not going to happen. I’m still in thermals.

Going to the beach. It’s a long weekend after all. Nope, not going to happen. I’m still in thermals.

Lying in the sun. Nope, not going to happen. I’m still in thermals.

You get the picture.

What we will be doing however is finding space for these fellas.

Residing here, at the side of the house, are my fruit trees, some herbs, sedum, verbena, sweet williams, roses, salvia, blueberries, gooseberries, red currants, white currants, hibiscus, clematis, hydrangea’s, peonies, bay, honeysuckle, fuschia and more but they were behind me when I took this shot (!)

I feel a bit overwhelmed.

Perhaps if I change the picture to a softer black and white palette it will seem less like I shall be planting out until 2022….

Let’s see……

Nope, didn’t make a jot of difference. See you in 2022.

But before you go tell me what YOU’RE doing this weekend? I’ve just heard on the radio that SNOW is forecast and I’d love to hear from you as I weep, silently, in to my sandwich.

I love you and thank you so much for reading today.

Cherry x

This is the last time you’ll ever have to plant these lovely things now that you’re in your very own home! This is one of the last weekends to the run up of my daughter’s wedding. Putting the last minute touches on the decorations. Saturday night I’ll be watching Psych, a funny detective show.

Soooo many plants!!! Sooo much planting!!!….Im working Saturday and Monday….:( But Sunday will be a lovely lazy day of waking up gently,Terry Wogan and a Cappucino,a medium rare steak with root vegetable fries, and a ‘cwtch up’ on the sofa watching a film or two..if the forecast is right,I may just stay in my p.j’s all day!!..Have a fab weekend..your garden will look amazing next year! :) xxx

  3. Jo says:

Wow – that’s a lot of plants Cherry. My collection is a lot smaller but I might brave the elements and plant out my seedlings
Other than that visiting friends and staying over at the best host in the world. Our friends make you feel like you are staying in a 7 star hotel – can’t wait
Hope the getting the house straight is going well :)
    Have a great weekend
    JO x

That’s an impressive collection of plants. At least all this rain will have made the ground nice and soft ready for digging. Nice to have your regular blogs back again. Enjoying hearing about your new house.

  5. Nikki says:

In my bit of West Sussex we’ll be wrapped up warm to tend the allotment, lighting the wood burner, curry one night, roast sea Bass another and maybe a stew. It’s still comfort-food weather, isn’t it? I dream of a garden with a small stream and a weeping willow. Happy May bank holiday in your new home!

  6. Countrygirl says:

Snow????? Snow you say!!!!! This cannot be. We’ve run out of logs. Can’t the weather men be a bit more thoughtful. Have a lovely Bank Holiday Cherry. Keep warm.

  7. Barbara says:

I will be cleaning my house as usual after a week of minding the Grandchildren ( also with sleepovers ). Then possibly going up to my son’s flat in London that he has just moved into to help with odd jobs there and then posssssssibly settling down to watch the new Margaret Thatcher D.V.D. with Meryl Streep. Well not With Meryl Streep, with my husband but you know what I mean.

Oh my, you are having the spring that we had last year Cherry! I hope that it passes quickly ’cause I also know that desperate feeling to get out in the garden and MAKE IT HAPPEN NOW! We are having quite the opposite year this year – in March we had a streak of really hot weather and the plants all started budding out and then of course, back into snow and freezing temperatures – I think that we have lost the bulk of the apple and tender fruit crop for this year :(

Your new home looks lovely and I am so happy for you that “settling in” is what the future holds for you and your family xoxo

  9. Snow? Snow! Good heavens, I keep forgetting that you folks are having a cold, wet Winter and Spring, while we basically never had a Winter this year in the USA. We are loving every minute of it, but will pay up when the Jet Stream decides to resume its normal path next year. Meantime, I will send warm thoughts of sunshine and sweet breezes as you settle into your Forever Home.

That’s a lot of planting, girl. But next Spring, you will be sooo happy with new tender leaves and buds from all your plant children!

Grab your dear ones and head over to Salzburg – last weekend we had days when the temperature climbed up to 30 degrees – centigrade (yes, and I currently don’t suffer from sunstroke writing this) and this weekend mild 20 degrees are on the forecast (but I tell you, it will be much warmer), lovely t-shirt days, and a swim in the lake for the brave-ones (lake temperatures are still in the area of hydro-therapy).
You should not plant your flowers and herbs with snow around, that is a very bad welcome to their new home, they can do a little longer in there pots. Monday is no holiday in Salzburg, so you could do a bit of shopping… hm, ain’t that tempting? :-)

    Have a fab weekend!

  11. Betty says:

They all look very healthy. Maybe you could make a start on the trees first! No snow here for the week-end, but showers and cool. It’s the beginning of winter in these parts and I’ve still got some bulbs to plant!

  12. MimiG says:

Snow? Oh my, we’re supposed to be up to 90 here in the Deep South. Most with pools will be opening them this weekend.
One good thing – you won’t be working up a sweat doing your planting, or you may not plant but sit by the fire with your family drinking yummy cocoa. Whatever you do, enjoy your new home and take more pictures, please!

  13. Looks like you have a fun weekend planned to me Cherry! Although I have to admit, I would like the weather to cheer up a little too. I’m hoping to get our chicken coop finished, so we can actually get some chickens in, oh and I’m going to have a look at some puppies! Have a nice weekend xx

  14. Bonnie says:

    Hi Cherry,
Just thought I would let you know what our plans are….We are heading out in a few hours for the mountains in Hendersonville, N.C. Sure wish you, Robert and the children were with us…we would have so much fun! But, I see you have your hands full. Save some planting for me and Marion for when we come visit…we love to garden.
Prayers and thoughts are with you…much love,
    BonBon
BTW….watched the last episode of the season of The Good Wife….want to know some juicy details? Heehee

  15. Sarah says:

Hi Cherry, just take the one-pot-at-a-time approach and you’ll be fine.

I’ve been visiting my seedlings every evening after work but think I’ll have to move them somewhere more sheltered for the weekend – looks like the nights are going to be chilly.

Me and the husband are off to Penshurst Place this weekend (like you, in our thermals) for a fabulous craft fair that they hold a couple of times a year.

Enjoy the long weekend, whatever the weather x

  16. Rebecca C says:

We will be finishing the veg beds, shredding and logging all the trees and hedge that we have been ripping out the garden, and then we are getting a delivery or plants from my parents… so as you will be doing, we will hopefully planting.. no matter the weather!

  18. Lowri says:

Wow! Looks like a garden centre there!! Haha. Have fun planting it all out, sure the twins will
    enjoy being out and helping!
We’ve got lots of seedlings to pot on so will be hanging out in the greenhouse. In between that I’ll be packing my hospital
bag in readiness for our baby’s arrival any day and attending a baby shower which my beautiful friends are hosting for me (that includes you if you’re reading this Em!)
Have fun in the garden Cherry, have enjoyed catching up on your posts this week.
    Love Lowri x

No snow here in Maine. It’s drizzly and cool. Did we trade weather with you?
I am off to an 8 am spin class…fast and furious…then for the rest of the day I will have little Amelia (my 18 mo grand baby) with me for the day. We’ll take a ride to a friend’s shop that will open tomorrow. They want to sell market bags that I make, so we’ll drop some off and come home for a tea party and a nap. In the evening my other grandchildren, Tucker 6 and Finn 3 will come for an overnight which they LOVE. It’ll be cool enough to have a fire in the fireplace and we’ll watch something fun. <3 Meredith

  20. Kate says:

    Snow?????

Egads! I shall in that case be snuggling with my ten day old baby, Edward. Have a great weekend Cherry!

Do you have chalky soil in your new place Cherry? If so, then your redcurrants won’t like it, and yes, this is the voice of experience speaking :o ) . I planted 2 last year that did nothing until I found out they hate chalk and since I live on a giant chalky hill, i’ve had to dig them up and put them in pots for this year. Fingers crossed.
This weekend is going to be busy I think. Husband and I have put tomorrow aside to clear out the garage and summer room /gym to get a bit of order to it all and then on Sunday my Mum and I are hoping to do the car boot sale at Fontwell. Bit of a trek for us, but meant to be good. The on Sunday evening, as her birthday pressie, i’m taking Mum to see Des O’Connor at the Kings Theatre in Portsmouth as a throwback to her youth as she saw him there then too. I may well just be the youngest person there, but i’m ok with that, as Des is a bit of a legend, it really is a beautiful Theatre and I don’t often get to be the youngest in the room anymore!
I think I will give myself Monday off as a rest day!
Good luck with the planting – I hope the weather stays dry for you, but at least if it’s wet your trees will get well watered in.
    Take care, Bex.x

I live in Canada, and have planted in the snow before … it’s awful. Sorry to hear about your weather. I’ll be doing some gardening this weekend as well, and will try to send our weather across the ocean!

  23. Andy says:

Looks like your going to be busy! !!!! Have a great weekend!!!!

  24. Brenda says:

Hi Cherry… well you will have lots of fun planting..lol I am sure you will get so much pleasure planting these in your Forever garden !

I thought I had lots to plant when we move to our new acreage! but I think you have more than me and also age is on your side…lol I am almost 60 ( next month) and I have lots to plant and lots to remove from the new place… so you will do just great ♥♥♥

  25. sadie says:

    lots of work there then!

we are going to try and finish off the playhouse. The weather hasn’t really been helpful so far, but never mind. I’m quite happy to stay indoors and stay warm & cosy!

have a lovely weekend, your first bank holiday weekend in your new home!
